do they have generally more sensitve skin?

Poor crystal has the dreaded itchys back again - yep ruddy mites in the last batch of hay (now disposed of). The others are absolutely fine but just one bite and she goes into overdrive and gets quite itchy quickly. All treated with ivormec which also seems to irritate her momentarily while it does its stuff.

But I wondered if this is a common issue with rex piggies or if she is just sadly extra senstive. She has my sympathies as I have sensitive skin too as well as allergies so I know how much its horrible.

She recovered quick enough last time, obviously if she isnt improved after christmas I will take her in the vets as I know if she is sensitive a little issue can become a bigger issue quite quickly and frankly I wont let that happen as they are all happy and healthy otherwise.

Poor girly, can we have stop itchy thoughts for her please :(

hmmm not sure but Fuzzy gets dry skin on his ears and one of past rex's Dibbs was the same too, hope he stops being itchy soon. Is their any kind of ointment that could be used to moisten the skin up? I'm guessing it's itchy cos its dry too.

it does make sense as well that if she has sensitive skin that she flinches when I touch her - this isnt like she has discomfort, more like I am tickling her which she has always done. She is happy to walk over my hands, take food from me and talk to me even sit on my lap as long as I dont try to stoke her too much, she doesnt mind a little bit but she would rather be with me than be touched if that makes sense without sounding like she has mites and a skin infection as she would be bald by now if this was a mite issue (having been like this for over 8 months and she is in good coat - bar the patch round her bum lately).

She seems a bit happier today, her skin where the ivormec went on is still a little pinker but that will settle down again soon enough. She isnt as itchy but it will take a few days before she should feel much better, she has till thurs which is my next day off to show marked improvement then its off to the vets - should give the ivormec a chance to be fully effective.

What I wanted to know, after a week I wondered about bathing her but considering how sensitive her skin seems, would it be better if I bathed her in aloe vera soulution instead to help her irritated skin?

My rex boys get quite dry too. i think it's something in their skin make up. We use gorgeous guineas moisturiser.

my Rex boy's skin is ok, but he's never liked being stroked, don't know if there's a connection?

its a little curious why both yours and mine dont like being stroked, she is happy to be held, happy to take food from my hand and she talks to me, infact I have the closest relationship with crystal out of all 4 of them because she interacts with me when I am not trying to stroke her, so if stroking tickles her too much then I can understand why she finds it unpleasent.

She is still a little itchy but is much happier as its infrequent moments, but think she may have to see the vet this time.

Mine occasionally get dry skin in patches but nothing too worrying, they do malt like crazy though! Mine don't mind being stroked or held and if I stroke them in certain spots or massage their backs they rumble! :))

Gorgeous Guineas do an aloe melt which is like an oil soak, it's for piggies with dry skin, might be worth a try to see if it helps relieve the problem.

just having a look and her lavender shampoo says good for sensitive skin piggies and rex's - think they must be a little prone to sensitive skin issues.

I have never bathed them :red so its going to be interesting when I do but I think in light of crystals special needs then they will all have to get used to it ;) (will do all as if one has lice, they all will)

just ordered some stuff for crystal, got stuff to treat her sore skin - she is better but still obviously itchy with the after effects like before, also got ointments to help sooth her skin and then preventative stuff.

She is a spoilt piggie, but worth it if this helps her with her skin.

My Gus is a Rex and he has quite dry skin , i found that tea tree cream is good and soothes his dry skin
