Junior Guinea Pig
Hello - I wonder if I’ve done the right thing.
I have a bonded pair of boys. They generally get on well and I’ve never seen a fight. One boy likes to harass the other by mounting him and nuzzling his back, then runs off!
The boy that does the harassing is currently recovering from surgery as he had an abscess removed from his chin. He had an xray too and we were able to rule out issues with his teeth.
Recovery is going really well, until this morning when I saw blood near his wound.
I’ve had him at the vets to get checked over, and the wound is great, but the blood is coming from a new bite literally a millimetre from his wound!
I can only assume that the other piggy has got annoyed by being harrassed, and turned and nipped him. Hence the injury.
While I wait for the vet to decide if they are going to glue the bite, or leave it to heal, I have separated the two boys. They are side by side, but have a divide.
I feel the separation may have to be permanent, as I dont want any future injuries. And the last injury obviously resulted in an abscess and surgery.
It’s not fair on the boy getting bitten, and also not fair on the boy that’s getting pestered to the point that he feels his only option is to nip the other.
They are both just over 2 years old, adopted together as babies and have always been together, so I feel bad.
Do you think I’ve done the right thing by separating them?
Thank you for any advice xx
