A few months ago my piggie pippin got ringworm i separated her from my herd cleared it up. so i disinfected everything! twice once with F10 and again with Virkon. not long after that i moved them into a tempory tin shed. as the old one started leaking. i should get a new shed in january anway while doing my weekely health checks i found mabel and callie with ringworm! :( so i sat and thought well it must be the hay... so i got a 4 massive bales out the shed and burned them. good job i did beacuse when i pulled the hay bale appart it was moldy inside! :( away ive burnd the shed down and 4 bales of hay. i wasent taking any chances I'm deverstated why do they keep getting ringworm! and how can i prevent it from coming back? x

It can be very tricky to get rid of, were all pigs treated at the same time or just the one? It is possible that the girls have had spores on them since the initial outbreak. How are they being treated at the moment?

I'm so sorry it keeps coming back, what awful luck. I hope you manage to clear it once and for all.

they all got bathed in a antifungal shampoo and ive been treating with Imaverol x

the treatment atm this Saturday found the ringworm I rub the stuff over the infected area and gave oral 2ml of imaverol with 1ml of water mixed in a syringe then ill do the same again in 7 days. then if still there ill treat again in 10 days and then ill bath in antifungal shampoo x I got this advice of a lady that runs a rescue so shes experienced :) x

Not sure if am getting confused, oral Imaverol? do you mean Itrafungol?

I didn't know Imaverol could be given orally, did the vet suggest that?

apparently yeah. i asked her if it was safe. she said it kills the fungal spores in there mouth as when they clean themselves the spores go into there mouth. she has over 6 years experience.

need some advice please. how do i know if my piggies ringworm is no longer active.? one has it in her ear and the other has it on the side of her face but her fur is growing back now. now the other piggie has it on her ear I'm finding it hard to tell if the ringworm is no longer active.?

If a different pig now has it on her ear then this will be a new spread. Please have all that have sores seen by a registered vet from a practice that deals with small furries and request oral intrafugal (most effective) to treat the affected pigs and either the same for all the others or at the very least a shampoo or dip for them.

Once you do this then you can start cleaning everything again with f10 and wear gloves when handling the pigs and their belongings to prevent spread.

This should hopefully clear it up for good x

i had one piggie with ringworm on her ear a year ago,she was seen by a vet prompt and all four piggies in the herd were treated with oral intrafungal and the infection cleared up very promptly, and no spread to other piggies .i also washed all fleece at 90 degrees, and cleaned all cage and all piggie items with f10,ive not had any reoccurence.i always wash all fleece at 60 degree wash, and i really like f10 !hope your piggies get well soon.
