Hi I have two beautiful 11 and a 1/2 week old guinea pig sows x) and one of them has come up with Ringworm. :(
She has been having treatment for the last 3 days with Surolan drops applied twice daily.

She is still in with the other guinea pig as they have been together constantly, so the other guinea is likely to have been exposed anyway. Is this the right thing to do keeping them together?

I am unsure what I should be doing with regards to cleaning/disinfecting their cage? :{ They are in a 2 by 4 C&C cage lined with newspaper/towel and a fleece bedding.
Whats they best thing to be cleaning the cage with? How often do I need to do the grids and the correx? How often for the fleece bedding?

Any advice would be really appreciated, as I have never had a piggie with ringworm.

Thank you.

Hi, sorry to hear your girl has ringworm. It sure ain't fun to treat is it?

I started a thread yday, you might be interested to read over it as there is some overlap in our questions:

AS you can see, I don't know much myself about it, so hopefully someone who knows more will be along to answer your questions better. On 2 vets advice, I have kept my girls together, like you said they've already had contact, and I was told it would be more stressful for them to be separated. So far, my other girl has shown no signs of fungal (i'm not sure if it is ringworm, or a different type of fungal).

I've been advised to get this to clean with: http://www.reptiles.swelluk.com/rep...fectant-range-f10sc-disinfectant--162934.html

Though so far, I have been soaking my towels and fleece in bleach and water for 15 mins before putting them through a 60 machine wash (mine only goes up to 60, you can do higher if * prefer?) I have also been soaking the coroplast with bleach and water and cleaning with that, though the F10 stuff will be good for that.

I have no idea about the cubes for the cage though, so will be interested to see the response about that.

Like I said, I don't know much myself, and apologies if I have misinformed you.. this is just on the information I have been given, so I would def wait until someone more knowledgeable answers your question. Good luck with it :)

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about the ringworm but dont panic. My baby pig had it and the vet told me to treat his friend too in case. Have you enough to do all of your tribe?
Cleaning wise i just used hot soapy water and washed and driedthe sides and bottom of the cage daily. I took all toys out untill it was gone (save extra washing) I disenfected the water bottle tip in boiling water everyday and changed fleece bedding daily too. I washed them on 60. The ringworm went no probs and never recurred.

just wondering what you did about the cage grids? I may have misunderstood, so apologies. Did you just wipe them down too?

Hi thanks for the replies.

Kikikickin, I have today bleached everything, including grids, just to be sure. Have washed fleece and towels on a 60c wash also. Hope this is enough.
I do hope the fungal infection clears up on your guinea pig, its not nice seeing them poorly. Though saying that my one is still fine in herself and still kicks the other one out of "her" hidy hole! cheeky!

Sharon, Thanks for the advice. Will wash down daily then, to keep it as clean as possible.
Unfortunately, I can't treat the other girl too, as I only have these drops called Surolan that you have to rub twice daily onto the affected area. My other girl isn't showing any sore patches as of yet (and fingers crossed won't) Am checking her daily, so if I see any sign I can apply the drops to her also. Just got to wait I guess.

At the time they were in pens with wooden sides, i just washed the floor but didnt do anything with the sides. If they got it now (they are in cages now) i would **** give the areas they can reach a little wipe.
