Hi i am really hoping you can help me. About 2 weeks ago I bought two piggies from a lady that said she had landed up with a pregnant piggy, i am now thinking that she may a breeder as I have now seen that she has yet more piggies for sale. Anyway when we picked up the piggies they seemed healthy, they had no marks etc Since having them home i have noticed that they have white dry marks on their ears, nothing else though. My friend also bought two boys on the same day, one of hers had a scab on his nose which we were told was because he had been attacked by another piggy. It healed up and is growing hairs back. My friends daughter had to go to the doctors yesterday with marks on her arm that were diagnosed as ringworm. They then looked closely at the piggies and noticed that there are dry patches on one of their backs but nothing that looks like ringworm. They took them to the vet but it was a PDSA and I am guessing the vet is not cavvy savvy as she was apparently reading from a book! She told them she thought it was mites and not ringworm and disregarded the fact that her daughter had ringworm on her arm. In the end they told my friend that a jab was best and then 2 more over the next fortnight, they said it was not licenced to be given to a piggy but they would lower the dose. They then sent my friend home with no creams or anything! I am now wondering what to do as my own two dont have any bald patches etc just the white on their ears, someone has suggested yo tub canestan on their ears? Also my friend is distraught and I dont know what to say to her, help

Can you identify it from these photos? http://gorgeousguineas.com/photogallery.html
Ideally you need a second opinion from a more 'guinea pig' knowledgable vet. Where are you located we can probably recommend one for you.
I know that ringworm can be passed from guinea pigs to humans so I would think it's safe to assume it works the other way as well. Make sure she wears gloves when handling them. I'd suggest everyone does until it's confirmed.

I've popped a request in to the Piggy Bank to see if someone can recommend a good vet for you. I'm sure someone will have a contact for you in the morning and we'll soon have the piggies sorted and all free of nasties!

I have given your friend details of a better vet in your area :)
