One of my guinea pigs has ringworm around her eye so the vet prescribed oral medication for her. The other is currently ringworm free and because the oral medication can adversely affect their liver she doesnt recommend i treat him.

My question is do I get both guinea pigs out every day now and handle the dominant boar first -even though hes not a fan- so he doesnt think hes missing out on something? Hes usually first into the carrier. He insists on being given any hand fed herbs or veggies in the cage first and then rushes to check shes not been given anything different.

I realise this daily enforced handling may negatively impact the trust ive been working on but sadly its a needs must situation.

I would continue to do things with him as you would anyway. Give him whatever he wants first and then do what you need to with her

I would recommend you bathe him now. Make sure to also bathe him again and to bathe her at the end of her treatment to ensure you wash out all spores on their coats. Any spore that remains can start off a new round.

If you don’t normally get him out then there would be no need to start now
You obviously have to get her out.

Hi. My guinea pigs have almost finished their ringworm treatment (1 more oral treatment and a final bath as you recommend).

The sows paw pads look scaly/dry but the vet says she thinks thats normal and shes never seen ringworm on the bottoms of feet. This is via email/pics not in person which is an option.

I have read @wiebeke guide to feet and i wonder if piggies can have hard skin on their feet and thats normal? Its just googling it seems to show feet should be smooth on health check? I guess I just would like to know if i need to be worried if their feet arent always perfectly smootj? Daphnes feet are black.

Can you pop a picture on here

It certainly can be normal, and actually if the skin on their feet is too soft it can cause problems, but without seeing it’s hard to comment further

The vet said the pics aren’t great. I guess I could just take them to see her 🤔 I do trust her I’ve just got ringworm overwrought!

The foot guide on here does seem to say they don’t really have pedicured smooth feet. There are some pics on Guinea lynx that show regular feet that aren’t all smooth and perfect.

It is tricky to see on the picture with her having black feet but they don’t look problematic to me
Thank you@piggies&buns that’s pretty well what the vet said (and about the pics).

Would it be sensible to get them checked by the vet in person now their ringworm treatment is pretty much completed? I can’t see any signs of it anymore and their fur is/has grown back in the original patches. It was just their feet I wasn’t sure about
