Well if you read my thread in the rainbow bridge section, you’ll see that my darling Tipex died on Friday. This morning my daughter noticed a bald, scaly patch under her mother, Pingu’s eye. Have just managed to catch Chewey and she has a similar patch by her left ear. Honey seems, as yet, unaffected.

Tipex has a patch that we had never seen before around her ear. We assumed the others had nibbled her to try to rouse her, but maybe she had it to.

Does this sound like ringworm? We’ve had mites before (years ago) and the patches look far less angry than that and the piggies aren’t scratching. Would ringworm have killed Tipex before we had even managed to notice any symptoms? She had been held earlier on in the week and had no patches on her.

And where would it have come from?

Help. Am now worried sick that we are going to lose them all.

It goes without saying that I will be calling the vet in the morning and trying to get an appointment for after work.

Hi!

HUGS

It is normal that you are much more jittery after a sudden death.

It sounds like ringworm, but the good news is that while ringworm is highly infectious and a real nuisance, it is not one of the killing diseases. Good that you are planning to have Tipex's mother seen tomorrow. The sooner you can get on top of it, the easier it is going to be. Please note that each ringworm spot has to run its due course, so it is going to look worse before it all heals up. But the sooner you can step in and prevent more patches from appearing and more spores getting to the skin, the better! ;)

Please take the time to read our guide and to order some F10 disinfectant if you haven't got it at home. Your hygiene is as important as any vet care to get rid of it once and for all. We have learned the tips in the guide the hard way, but that is also the reason why they they really work and are worth following!

Thank you. Have read your guide and thankfully have amazon prime so will order the F10.

So reassuring to read that this wouldn’t have been what led to our loss of Tipex. I couldn’t bear to think of us missing that and losing her because of hat, or the other being at risk

Agree with @Wiebke about this. It would have had nothing to do with Tipex's passing. Ringworm is a pain but if you catch it early like you have done you can get it cleared quickly

Vet confirmed drug worm and Ho eg has it now too. Itrafungol on order as they didn’t have it in stock and ordering f10 from amazon. She said we had done really well to spot it so early and reassured us that it would not have caused Tipex’s death; in fact the ringworm likely was triggered by the stress of her loss. So sorry for your loss :( I recently lost my boar and am utterly heartbroken, so know how you feel - sending hugs. My two sows recently had ringworm and they've completely recovered from it; it's a pain but they will get better :)
