Hi so we recently got this new piggy, her names Penelope! She’s the cutest darnest thing, she popcorns constantly and runs around her cage. So we noticed this a couple days ago, she has a vet appointment tomorrow but she cried out earlier and went and looked and didn’t see anything else that had been there. She has those spots by her eye but idk if it’s just the ringworm spreading? I was scared it was her partner but I’ve never seen them fight other than some Dominance situations. 116440

Hi!

Good that you have already booked an apppointment. it looks like a fungal skin infection to me; in a new guinea pig, this is most likely ringworm as pet shops and commercial supply breeders struggle to get on top of the invisible long-lived spores combined with a very stressful environment for babies whose immune system is still under construction.

Below are our tips re. customer rights and ringworm hygiene and pictures of the different stages.
Please invest in one of our recommended disinfectants and follow our hygiene tips. It is the best thing you can do to get on top of ringworm. In a dozen years we have had time to figure out a goodly number of the many ways ringworm can be transmitted and how to best address then in order to get on top of it once and for all. While it may seem like overkill, in the case of ringworm it unfortunately isn't.
What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
