Hi folks I'm new to this forum and have had my 2 piggies olga and florence for nearly 2 months. love them both to bits have had them since they were 9 weeks old. (puchased from pets@home) Anyway i have had a bit of a problem this week, i developed a stange rash on my face over the wknd which i now know to be ringworm and am now treating this with cream. Couldnt for the life of me think where i caught if from until i noticed olga has a bald crusty patch on her back leg and today noticed she also has one on her tummy :( I'm just wondering whether using cannesten cream if suitable for treating this? and would appreciate any other advice anyone has regarding this.

Thank you x

Personally i would take your pig along to the vets for a check up and proper diagnosis. The vets will be able to prescribe the correct medication for the skin condition - the problem with home remedies is that unless you are 100% sure of what you are dealing with you can cause more harm than good.

If you can tell us your location, we can recommend a suitable vets for you....

Yes go to the vets - my boys had ringworm unbeknown to me when I got them, and I ended up with it on my neck.

It is very contageous, and takes time to get rid of. You will need to make sure you get the right treatment, I would go to the vet...

Defintely a vet trip needed, if it is ringworm it will show up under a wood lamp. My Katie skinny was tested this way at the weekend and did not have ringworm as it turned out but you defintely need a proper diagnosis.

I would get them checked by a vet as the ringworm spreads quite quickly. I had one about 8 years ago develop it in the first few days of bringing him home, the vet treat it over a month and also bathed him for me.

Unfortunately, I caught it from him and it just kept spreading and spreading mostly on a night when it rubbed the duvet, you could actually see all the rings on my face. Boots sell an anti-fungal cream in a blue and white tube which I found was better than Canesten and still have to use because of flare ups.

In the end I had to have pills from the Doctor to clear it up as it was just spreading too fast. Better to treat it quickly.

Definitely a visit to the vet. We recently had a 10 week old piggy from pets at home, who developed a white flaky rash around his eye. It was diagnosed as ringworm and we have been treating with griseofulvin tablets for the last 3 weeks and it is completely cleared up.

And the plus side is, we contacted pets at home about this who cover the costs fully! Especially after their watchdog episode xx>>>
