My pretty little piggy Ruby was expecting four precious pups, unfortunately she had complications during labor and the pups didn't make it. Mom is doing well but still fighting to survive. Run free little ones! :'(
I am so very sorry for the little ones that never got a chance to live. My fingers very firmly crossed that Ruby can pull through with her four little guardian angels cheering her on!
I was following your thread when Ruby started having trouble and was just so upset from start to finish. Cant imagine what it was like for you. Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope Ruby is still fighting strong and will give you many more years of happiness. R.I.P. Ruby's little ones.
I thank everyone for the support and kind words, it really has made a difference. Ruby is doing well. We are working on getting her bowels back on track now that shes been eating more on her own. We are also going to try and do some swimming exercises to get her legs working better, currently she isn't walking around at all, just crawling..
I would recommend the hydrotherapy - one of my guinea pigs had paralysed back legs and we did this with him. We also gave him vitamin c tablets to try and give him a boost with recovery and massaged his back end. He made a recovery slowly, it just took him time. Make sure that she drinks plenty (bring the bottle to her regularly) as sometimes they can't bring themselves to move to it/food.
I haven't herd of hydrotherepy? We tried the swim exercise last night, but it didn't work as planned, she wouldn't kick her legs at all. But I guess we will try it again on a later date!
So sorry that Ruby did not get to see her 4 babies grow into cuddly critters...may all the other piggies take care of the babies on the other side of the bridge.
Please do not give up on the swim exercises. She might just need some help to get her legs moving. Make sure that the water is warm. Support the front of her body with your one hand and gently bend and move her legs with your other hand. It will take time, but she will get better...she sounds like a tough cookie.
Our departed Mielie picked a back injury once and could not use his back legs, but after 2 weeks of swim exercises he was back on all four footsies. We continued it for another 2 weeks just to strengthen the muscles.
No improvement with her legs, I think I will be posting a picture in the health forum, I can't describe her legs but they look very unnatural, kind of looks like she is doing the splits, if that's possible.. and there hasn't been much improvement's elsewhere either. But her bowels are doing great and she's eating a lot.
