unfortunately my little boar George became poorly yesterday. He stopped eating, drinking and pooping. I separated him from his cage mate yesterday evening.

I syringe fed him and called the emergency vets first thing this morning. He didn’t make it to his appointment.

He was only about 20 months old and leaves behind his cage mate Harry. I am broken.

My biggest concern is Harry. His eating and drinking fine. How long before I should try to find him a cage mate? I’ve never bonded boars before. Would a baby boar be best? I don’t want him on his own

You could neuter a boar then when he's safe after the op. Then you could put him in with sows. I had two boars & had them neutered then put them in with sows. They strut around, thinking they are top piggies. It's really the girls who boss them around. Lol
Sleep tight little George

I'm so sorry for your loss! I only have sows, but I know there are some members who are experienced with bonding boars who will be able to give you some advice. Just wanted to give you some ((HUGS.)) It's so sad when they pass away young. The same happened with my original pair, Linney and Frenzy. Frenzy passed away around 20 months or so. It was so heartbreaking, plus we were not expecting to have to deal with introducing a new buddy at that point, which only added to the stress.

I’m broken. Think they though I was daft when I left work early today.

His being cremated. It broke my heart seeing him poorly. I feel so guilty I couldn’t get him there in time xx

so sorry for your loss. If you can get to one of the recommended rescues on our rescue locator they may be able to help with boar dating which is more likely to result in a compatible companionship and it takes a lot of the bonding stress off of you.

I am feeling really sad inside myself for your losses. Maybe a rescue or a petshop might help u.

So sorry for your loss.
Sleep tight sweet George.

I would say boar dating at rescue is the way to go if you can. I couldn't find a rescue to boar date my bereaved piggy and in the end went down the baby bonding route. They have been together a month now and so far so good. The actual bonding process was painless and easy (I was lucky?), since then the babies almost constant humping of the older boy has been annoying to Bracken. Bracken won't fight back he is being very patient with baby Rusty. This is easing off and they are getting to be better companions. I am very glad I did this now although I was very nervous of it at the time.
Don't feel guilty you did all you could. X

Thank you. Harry seems to be eating really well today which is reassuring

Hello. I'm sad to hear your little guy died. Rainbow World receives another well loved piggie. RIP George. x
