RIP Hafren (19/07/2011 - 28/01/2019)

Sadly the first of my remaining five old ladies from the 2011 class has made her way to the Rainbow Bridge this evening. It's been touch and go on a daily basis since the turn of the year, but she has just about hung on while I have been dealing with Llawen's life and death emergency over the last few days.

Hafren's been lovingly looked after by the other members of the 7 Years Club in her last days, who took it in turn to snuggle up with her at night over the last week, and she was still begging for her dinner at the grids yesterday evening despite being very wobbly and hardly able to move. Tegan has been regularly checking in on her after she went into organ failure and has been taking her leave of her.

Hafren has celebrated her 6th 'Gotcha Day' (Adoption anniversary) just before Christmas. She and Nesta were a sight-unseen adoption from RNGP Welfare in Rugby in 2012 to help make space for a massive baby boom as a result of the rescue having had a job lot of pregnant breeder piggies dumped on their drive.

She's had a good life first with the large Tribe and later with Maelog's half of it before she and Iola became my formidable Two Fat Ladies pair in 2015.

The Two Fat Ladies (after an old UK cooking programme), Hafren and Iola, her best friend and partner in crime for three years

After Iola's death last summer she and equally newly bereaved Tegan decided that at their age company outweighed dominance for the last half year. Which of them came top usually depended on who had the better day form.

I am very sad of course, but this is the one death that I have been able to prepare for, and I am relieved that it hasn't turned into yet another emergency vet appointment!

Anyway, between young Heini's unexpected death, her companion Llawen's life threatening GI stasis and now Hafren's passing, it's definitely been a week to remember, if not for the right reasons! :(
