My baby Mookie, that I recently rescued, had his bladder stone removal surgery this morning, but when they opened him my vet realized it was inoperable because the stone was trapped in the wall of his bladder. Recognizing that he was very stressed and in pain, I couldn't wake him up and force him to go through the post op stress on top of the pain from his stone. My family and I put him down which was so hard because he was so special to us, even though we'd only had him for two months.
This leaves me with my other boar, Snickers. He seems healthy at the moment, but I'll post if anything changes. He's 2-3 years old, and I'd like to get him a friend because I know guinea pig's quality of life is so much better with a friend, but my family has been so shook up from the sudden death of Mookie that it doesn't seem like an option.
For now I have put a stuffed animal in his cage which he seems to like, but I don't think it will be long before he realizes Mookie has passed. My vet says the guinea pigs realize when eachother are sick, but that doesn't make me feel much better about the situation. I really appreciate the help and love this forum has showed me, thank you everyone!

So sorry for your loss.I lost the pig in my avatar after only having her six months and she left a huge hole. The amount of time we have them makes no difference to the bond.Huge hugs.

I'm very sorry for your loss, I had the same issue with my Sam (in my avatar) about 3 weeks ago.A huge bladder stone was found in his uretha and it couldn't be removed so I had to make the heartbreaking decision to have him PTS to save him any more pain so I know how you feel xx

Yes it really is so heartbreaking, best wishes to you xx

I am so very sorry for your loss. You made the kindest decision for your little piggy. I, too, have lost a piggy to a stone lodged in his urethra and while it is heartbreaking to say goodbye, it is the kindest act of love for them. Big hugs.
