Yesterday We lost our beloved piggy, Pancake. She was 6 and had had a good life but it still hurts. We were woken up yesterday morning by her wheeking but not in her normal way for food. It was really loud and sounded wrong. I ran downstairs to find her and my other piggy in the corner of the cage. Pancake couldn’t move and was lying on her side making these horrible wheeks. I knew she was in so much pain and needed to be taken to the vet asap.

Once we got to the vet we knew she needed to be put to sleep. She actually passed away naturally before the vet gave her an injection and we all cried including the vet.

I can’t get her squeals out of my head, it hurts to know that she was in so much pain.

My other piggy is doing ok, she’s eating and drinking but very quiet. Pancake was the more dominant of the two and it pains me to see her on her own. Thing is she is getting quite old so I’m not sure if getting a new companion is the best for her.

Loosing Pankcake feels like th end of an era and I’m so sad RIP little one

So sad to hear of the loss of your beloved Pancake. Even though you know she had a great life with you it still really really hurts. Eventually you will be able to look back and remember all the lovely times you had together.x

I’m so sorry you lost pancake, she was beautiful.
Over time you will remember the happier times and not how she was at the end.She would’ve known she was loved and that you were with her at the end xx

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful pig, Pancake. It's so horrible when you lose a pig, even worse when it's under those circumstances and they've been ill/in pain.

I had to make the decision to have Toast PTS as she was so ill and at first all I could ever think about was her face, the face she made as she drifted away and it was so sad. But over time it gets easier and you start to remember the good times you both had and the happy memories.

Beans, who was left behind, is about 6 and a half years old so I also struggled with whether or not I should get her a friend, it took about 2 months but I did end up getting her a friend and she's so happy again. But to be fair after the initial shock or losing Toast, she was managing on her own not too bad.

Just see how it goes, it's too hard a decision to make right away when you're so upset. Keep an eye on your other piggy, sometimes they don't seem to be too fussed and carry on as normal, sometimes they really pine and need the company.

Take comfort from knowing you did all you could for Pancake, right up to the last minute. She will have known how much she was loved. X

I am so sorry for the loss of your gorgeous piggy.

I will say something to you that a lovely person said to me on here when we lost a piggy in a distressing way..
The last moments of someone or our pets life do not define a life or what they experienced in it. Pancakes life I can tell was full of love with you and those final few moments will never detract from that. She was so very loved and cherished. I promise in time you will remember the good times and happy experiences you shared with her.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Sleep well pretty girl

RIP Pancake

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Today our other piggy passed away exactly a week after Pancake died. Although she had been eating she wasn’t herself and it wasn’t nice to see her in such a way. I’m sad but relieved that they’re both not suffering anymore and will always treasure the happy memories. RIP Squeak xx
