I lost my beautiful girl, Pansy, on Tuesday. :0 I will never forgive myself because when I found her, the water bottle was empty. :0 I don't deserve guinea pigs. I miss her so much.

 
Oh honey, don't be hard on yourself. I'm sure it wasn't related to the waterbottle. I know you will be looking for reasons for what happened but sometimes there are no reasons, it is just nature and it was not your fault. Big hugs.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I am sure that the emtpy water bottle was not the reason she died - as you dont seem like the kind of person to ignore their guine pig's needs. I'm sure it was a co-incidence. I'm so sorry.
 
I am very sorry for your loss! As long as she was fed fresh veg on a daily basis, she wouldn't have died from dehydration. But it is very normal to reach for anything when you don't have a clue what happened.

Sadly, we often don't know when a piggy is suddenly passing away out of the blue. It is much more likely a stroke or heart failure, and there is nothing you could have done even if you had been there.

Thank you. Yes she did. However, she hadn't had any yet that day as it was the time when I went down with all the veggies when I found her. :0 I feel so cruel, I let her down. Even thinking I should re-home my 2 other pigs because the guilt is too much, they need better. :(
 
Give yourself time to get over this and don't blame yourself.I have been away for a couple of days and come back to empty bottles.Person looking after them got rocketted but mine were fine.You are a good owner so enjoy the two you have left
 
OK so you checked them every day at least, and unfortunately this time the bottle happened to be empty. unless your pig was in a conservatory/greenhouse and it was hot she would not have died of dehydration in a couple of hours. And I am sure your piggies will have a much more secure future with you than if you rehomed them, as all the rescues seem to be full and I'm sure you would not want to risk their futures by putting them on gumtree etc.

I know you feel awful I really do but please be kinder to yourself.

I still feel dreadful about my 9 month old hamster that died suddenly and unexpectedly in September. I was worried that he had not figured out his new water bottle, but it worked (I tested it several times) and my son had seen him drinking some hours before. We just all look for explanations, and sometimes there isnt one :( without a post mortem, you wont know. Please try to rest easy. I'm sure you are a good owner.
 
Thank you everyone. It's just really hit me hard because she seemed fine the day before. I wish I could turn back time and have put on another water bottle. I just didn't think it would run out in the time that it did.

Pansy was inbred though, maybe this could have been why she died. She was only 3. :(
 
I am so sorry to read this, don't beat yourself up over this. As others have said the water bottle is a co-incidence and wouldn't have been the cause. Massive hugs to you at this sad time x x

Very sorry for your loss.

Please don't blame your self it is highly unlikely that it was the water bottle running out that was at fault. Unfortunately sometimes bad things happen for no reason at all, it is human nature to try to explain them and guilt is a normal process of grieving. You will probably never know what happened to Pansy but you do know that she had a fantastic life with you.

Thank you. It really has been the week from Hell. My parents went away and it was meant to be this fantastic week but I've been ill and lost Pansy too. :(
