image.webp Peanut was our gerbil his brother passed away at 1 1/2years. I tried to get him a friend and did the split cage ect. But it didn't work Juju beat peanut up pretty bad. He lost most of his tail, some toes and his butt was all chewed up. I put Peanut in a smaller cage and dunked his butt in hydrogen peroxide water mix twice a day and kept him on paper towel and heating pad under the aquarium until he was all better. He would lay on my chest and drink water out of a bottle cap in the first couple days. He lived another 3 years all alone in a 30g aquarium and made it to 4 1/2 years old. He was always so gentle. He even came camping in the camper with us. He passed away this passed June.

So sorry to hear about Peanut, I love gerbils and miss keeping them. He was such a hansome man. Rip sleet tight little one!

This pic is him I'm his little casket.

image.webp Thanks so much. I got a little wood coffin and put a wash cloth in it and a cotton ball pillow. He was mostly my daughters but we all loved him. Summer my DD wrote all over the box and even cut a piece of material from her lovie and put in with him. :( and a little fake rock that has an opening I'm the bottom with a slide compartment, it's for keys, it says peace on it and she puts a treat In there once a week.
We buried him in the flower garden and made a nice big stone head stone out of a large rock. I made this photo for my daughter.

:( It's clear that you cared for him very much. That send off sounds beautiful! He was one lucky little man x

I am so sorry for the loss of your gorgeous little boy.

Sleep well little one

RIP Peanut

Oh and I think this is so cute. I cut a little bit of Peanuts hair and put it in tape for her.
She cut a little bit of her own hair and put it in with him:soz::luv: I thought that was so cute of her. She also wrote him a special two page letter and her school pic ( I wasn't allowed to read it) we put it in a plastic bag in his little coffin.

And I found this lovely prayer that I read as we buried him. He really did have a send off. I also got her a special keepsake box just for peanut things. This was her first pet that she lost. But he was an old old man at 4 1/2 and alone for 3 they say they usually only make it 6 months without a friend. He had such a large cage and was able to build elaborate tunnels. I think that helped a lot. I hate seeing gerbils and hamsters in small cages.

Xoxox we miss you Peanut man.

That's just beautiful. And of course a great way to help her deal with it too. My bf suggested we wrote letters to him to put in his burial box with dandelion leaves, bless him aged 33. He knew how much my lil guy meant to me though x
