Peggy died on Sunday aged 4, we think a fox got her as all that remained was a tuft of fur. She was such a little character so squeaky and happy! I know that they don't live very long anyway and she had a great life, but I'm overcome with sadness and have cried every day. The kids seem to have recovered already and I feel a bit of fool for not having it together, but something triggers me and then I am in floods of tears again. Also feeling sad for her sister who is now on her own (but in my daughter's room at night for the moment.) Anyway just posting on here as it's day four now and I have no one I can ring for a cry 😭😭😭 I'm sure you get it. Peggy's the ginger & brown one x116146

I’m so sorry x
Is there any way you can move your remaining piggy inside permanently, or give her a more secure outdoor cage?
There is no reason to be feeling silly for being upset, everybody grieves, just some in different ways x
If it would make you feel better you may want to put together a photo album of all the memories you have, or print a photo and frame it, it may help you feel better x

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's not easy losing any pet and to lose one in such traumatic circumstances is dreadful for you.
I would be worried that the fox knows that there is another piggy in the hutch in the daytime and may come back in daylight hours, so is there any way you can keep her indoors permanently?

Sorry to hear about beautiful Peggy. My childhood guinea pigs were lost by finding an animal had got to them, and that made it more upsetting. Peggy looks very sweet and happy in the photo and that's the thing to hold onto as you recover from your sadness..

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful little guinea pig, she had the most wonderful life with you. Massive hugs at this very sad time.

Sleep well little one

RIP Peggy

So sorry that you lost Peggy in such traumatic circumstances.
You need to cry the grief out.
You have us to talk to and there is also the Blue Cross pet bereavement service who provide listening ears for people grieving for their pets.
Be patient and gentle with yourself as you grieve

So sorry. This is so sad.
I would try to keep your other little piggy inside,as the fox may come back.
Please don't feel silly for being upset, we all understand how you feel.
Piggies leave a large hole in your heart when they go.

Sleep tight little Peggy.xx

So sorry that you have lost Peppy, she was a beauty. please keep your other piggie secure as foxes have hungry cubs at the moment and will return time and again if it knows there are others x
Sleep tight little lady x

I am so sorry that you lost Peggy in such difficult circumstances.

And please be kind to yourself - there is no time limit on feeling sad when we loose a pet.
I put off collecting Eddi's ashes from the vet for almost a month becasue I knew I would just fall apart if I went in any sooner - it was weeks before I could even say his name without bursting into floods of tears.

Real piggy people will always understand

Thank you all for your kind messages. It does make me feel better. Pearl the remaining sister has been inside a lot more and seems to be coping ok. I just get emotional when I see her on her own in her cage. My neighbour thinks that it would more likely be a bird of prey. Whichever it was..... it's still awful, but maybe less likely to return than a fox?
