Penny was approx 4 1/2 years old when she sadly passed away.
I got her back in 2007 when i bought my first house. She was my first ever piggy. I got her from Pets At Home rescue section. She had been picked on by the other piggy's she was with and had terrible scars all over her back. I took her there and then. Bought her new cage and all the bits and pieces :)
In 2010 i moved to Blackpool and all of my pets came with me. Cat - Stella, Polo - rabbit, Penny and Rosie - guinea pigs. Sadly one of my rabbits, Biscuit, passed away suddenly just before i moved.
Everything was good. My pets lodged at my future in-laws until i'd bought a place here.
She was fine the Friday when i went round to feed them in the morning. My future mum in-law fed them in the evening. I went round on the Saturday and Penny wouldn't come out for her food. Normally she would be at the cage bars biting them waiting for the food to drop in her bowl :)).
I opened up her cage and found her tucked in the corner of her house and one side of her stomach had swollen up, so i immediately called the vet and took her straight in. They took her in and said they would try and get some of the fluid/air out of her tummy.
I didn't sleep well that night. The phone rang at 9.30am on the Sunday and it was the vet. He said that she had passed away earlier that morning. They tried to get as much of the fluid/air out but there wasn't much else they could do :(
The day she passed was also my other half's birthday. Not a great day.
I miss her terribly. I blame myself for what happened. I think i always will

I love you Penny, and miss you lots RIP
Love Mummy

Another little star now twinkling in the sky ........... :(

Thankyou for sharing some of her life with us, she was certainly a very pretty little girlie x)x)

Thank you Glynis, Velvet and Onyx

I hope i didn't make it too long?

I am just so sorry to hear of your loss. You must not blame yourself. You took her to the vet as soon as you saw she was unwell and that is all you could do. You loved her and gave her a wonderful life. Do not torture yourself.

tributes are like therapy, so take your time.... no rush and no self- consciousness!

Piggies do go downhill very quickly and some VERY experienced members have some sudden deaths, so please don't blame yourself. 4 1/2 is a good age. Please find comfort in the knowledge that you gave her the best life she could have hoped for and that you did everything you could when you noticed she wasn't well.

She seemed like a lovely piggie and you must remember that too.

So sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl. Please do not blame yourself, piggies can go downhill so quickly and are very good at masking any illness. You are not to blame in any way. You did everything you could for your little one.

RIP Penny

So sorry for your loss :0

Try not to blame yourself. As soon as you realised there was a problem you took her to the vet. You couldn't have done more for her.

I'm sure she knows she was a very loved piggy,

Run free Penny with all the piggies at the bridge,

Cuddles to Rosie from us here

Hugs to you

xx

BIG HUG

I am so sorry that you lost your lovely Penny!

Please don't blame yourself; bloat can happen anytime, and you are always up against it - it is one of the nastier things that guinea pigs can come down with. You did what you could and had her seen as soon as you noticed. But it is a terrible shock to lose a piggy so suddenly and unexpectedly - and your first one is always special!

RIP Penny

RIP Beautiful piggy.
I lost my Butterscotch a few weeks ago to bloat after he'd had a hernia operation

What a beautiful and moving tribute to a very special piggie. I'm so sorry that she is no longer with you but what a great life you gave this little piggies. Sleep well little one...

Thank you all so much

Sadly Rosie my other guinea pig was put to sleep yesterday, she was 4

RIP Rosie. You can now join Penny at the bridge

Love Mummy

BIG HUG

What a sad time for you! You must be so heartbroken to lose both girls so close together.

Popcorn together again, Rosie and Penny - and look out for your mummy!
