Well what a horrible morning.

Today is my daughters 2nd birthday, so we have been up nice and early opening all her presents.

I go out to feed Peppa and George and have found Peppa has passed away.
As if that's not bad enough, how do you tell your child on her birthday Peppa has gone.

After burying Peppa under the biggest tree in the garden I took George in the house and the first thing my little one says is where is Peppa.

We have told her she's gone home to see her mummy and daddy. It was so hard telling her Peppa has gone :'(

Now I have to carry on with the Birthday celebrations for our little one!

So I have a question or two will George be happy on his own for a while or will he need a buddy straight away?

I'm really at a loss as to what happened to Peppan there were no physical signs :(

So sorry to hear you lost Peppa :( popcorn free at the bridge little lady

As for George being ok on his own - I suppose all piggies are different some may be happy to live on their own others may get lonely only you know your George.

My sister-in-law recently lost a piggie and we paired the boar with a 4 week old baby and they are getting on brilliantly - Starskey (the older one) really fathers Whiskey :)

I am sure others who have more experience of this will be along soon

I hope your daughter has a nice birthday despite the sad sad thing that has happened

BIG HUG

What a horrible, horrible timing! I am so sorry that you have lost Peppa so soon!

Sadly, guinea pigs get heart attacks and strokes like we humans - and can just die like us! There is virtually nothing you can do even if you had been there, if that is whatever scant consolation I can offer - not you fault or shortcoming in any way!

George will probably mourn (and withdraw) for a few days, but if you can use the week to ring round rescues, he should be glad to get company again next weekend! If you can find a rescue where you can take him for some "dating" that would be great - let him choose his new friend! I have done that twice with great success. I have found in the past that while nothing could take away the grief, looking for a new mate was cheering me up as at least I could do something to make my left piggy happy again!

You could contact our forum member Logiebear in Manchester; she runs this rescue here and has quite a few piggies of different ages looking for company; she is the closest forum rescue to you at the moment:

I hope that your little girl has a wonderful birthday nevertheless!
The Tribe are sending her very special wheeky birthday wishes!

Oh my god...how horrible for all of you. I'm so so sorry for your loss :( and such bad timing. I hope your daughter enjoys her birthday.
Once again I'm so sorry for your loss. Hope George is ok and finds a new friend soon.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Peppa.
George would probably benefit from some piggy company, so def check out your local rescues to find a suitable friend for him. Hope your wee girl enjoys her day despite the loss. x

I'm very sorry to hear that you have lost Peppa so suddenly, and on your little girl's birthday too :(

I hope your daughter has a great day with lots of lovely treats xx

I'm sorry too, i lost a Pepper recently and it was devastating, be strong, you still have George and i bet Peppa had a lovely home/life from what you have said, rip baby x

I'm sorry for your loss Andy. Hope your little girl has still enjoyed her day, and your other little pig is ok. xx

That is normal, even though it is gutting for the two of you. Hopefully, she will be diverted when she gets to know that George is looking for a new friend.

Peppa will always have his very own special place in your hearts. A new guinea pig won't take away from that as he will create his own bonds over time!

Thanks :)

The wife found it hard telling the little one this morning, she now understands what i went through yesterday :(

Oh, how sad :(. Poor little girl. Wishing you all the best. Hope you find another piggy soon to take her mind off of things, at least you still have George.
Good luck :)
