I haven't posed on here for a long time due to moving house and other stresses but a couple of weeks ago I lost my beloved Peter.
He was poorly and had numerous trips to the vets which the last visit involved him having surgery to remove stones in the urinary tract. He had lost a lot of weight but was still running around, wheeking and eating lots of food.
I reluctantly went on holiday and he was staying at a rabbit and guinea boarding place in Herts. During my hol the lady looking after the tribe was keeping me updated on how everyone was. Then I got a phone call from my brother saying that she had been trying to get hold of me. He was OK the night before then during morning feeding she had noticed he was slumped over so brought him into her house and held him whilst he took his last breaths. I'm so grateful to her for being there when I couldn't and it's a small comfort to know that he wasn't alone.
I was going to get a second opinion when I was back from hol but I feel like I let him down by not doing it much earlier. Still quite upset by it all as I failed him. Thought I would write on here as this community would know what I'm going through.
Pansy and Primrose seem to be doing OK but going to keep an eye on them.

Lovely and fluffy

So sorry you lost your Peter. Sadly things happen and you cannot be there all the time. He was obviously really ill. He is now free from pain, just try and remember the happy times.
Thank you. It was probably getting to the stage of how much more did I keep pushing to get him better.

I'm so sorry that you lost your beloved Peter. He was obviously adored and a lucky chap to live with such a kind piggy slave and some beautiful wives. Hugs to you, popcorn free Peter xx

What a little beauty, but whatever you do, don't beat yourself up. Your a very caring piggy owner, we know that from the forum. sometimes it's just really hard when life is in your way. I tell myself, the piggies are better with me than say the normal average Joe who walks into a well known store and buys without having any understanding at all about the level of care that is actually required and of course love.
xx

Please don't blame yourself . You did all you could, sometimes we just cannot save them no matter what we do. We all know what a wonderful Mum you are and this little lad was so very loved and lucky to have you in his life. Huge hugs x

Sleep well handsome boy

Thank you all. I think because he was the first guinea pig I lost it was quite hard. I got his ashes earlier in the week and they're in a lovely little pot. Not going to spread them but put the pot near a yellow indoor plant I bought.
Still got some men in the house to protect us ladies as Fudge and Panda joined us in April from Hazelcroft Rescue.

Aw @TallKaren my heart goes out to you. Please don't think you failed him, it's not the case at all. He was a well-loved piggy with a really lovely home.
Be free at the Bridge sweet little Peter x
