This morning we discovered my sweet Poppy had passed away she was a sister named Honey who we are hoping to bring into the other pair of piggies so she won’t be sad and die of heartbreak which we have already had a pair do that.

BIG HUGS

I am so very sorry for your loss. Poppy was a beautiful girl. Try to keep Honey next to the other pair for company right now so they can get to know each other while Honey grieves for her sister. As long as she is eating and drinking she is not at risk because she is not pining acutely and you can give her that time but having company next door and interaction through the bars does help.

Guinea pigs can react very differently to the loss of a companion. It depends on whether the loss was sudden and unexpected, the nature of their bond (were they very close or not) and the personal outlook. It also depends on whether the surviving piggy has any underlying or age related health issues.

Please be aware that not every bereaved piggy will necessarily accept new company just because you have witnessed one extreme. I've got a nice cupboard full of t-shirts of bereaved sows of mine or adopted widows.

At least, if things don't work out, Honey will hopefully be able to live alongside your pair with full sight, smell/pheromone and vocal interaction through the bars for round the clock stimulation. That takes a lot of pressure off you. ;)

All the best.

So sorry to read your sad news, hope Honey bonds well 🤞

Sleep tight gorgeous Poppy 🌈
