on sunday eve we lost one of our girl ratties Princess, she was absolutely fine in the morning for her breakfast, then at dinner time she was sat very quiet in the bottom of the cage normally she is the first one at the door for her food, we got her out, she hadnt lost any weight at all, my daughter was holding her while i was setting up the hospital cage for her and was about to arrange a vet visit she took a deep breath and flopped over in my daughters arms and was gone 8...
not sure what happened it was so sudden, she was 2 and a half so about average for a rat i guess but they can live to 4 or more
her cage mate died at a year old so maybe there was something in the genetics, i dont know where she came from originally as i rehomed the pair from a women who was keeping them in a small gerbilarium!
the rest of the group have been asserting their authority to each other as Princess was the top rat and took to our new rat roxy straight away
RIP little one, your group wont be the same without you
