Rip Pumpkin

Losing Pumpkin has been hitting me so hard. After losing my second ever guinea pig luna to a URI that i didn’t catch in time..I’ve tried my hardest to check my pigs for symptoms every single day, I got super sick over Christmas and wasn’t able to keep up with that..I realzied on tuesday as i was cleaning their cages that she seemed lethargic and she was more puffed up than normal. I knew I had caught it too late..i rushed her to two different vets and she was given meds and i had to syringe feed her..she was too weak on the last day to do anything so I just held her and cried and told her it would be okay. when she left me it hurt so much, it made me never want to..own anymore pigs if i could avoid this pain ever again. I know i can’t just stop owning them though, i love caring for them and i love everything they bring in. This is just the hardest part of owning these sweet angels, I know losing my others will be jjst as painful and jjst as heartbreaking but i know how much i love them and i know how much i care for them is enough. I just wish i had caught her sickness sooner. it’s so hard not to blame myself. I just miss her. Here are some pics of her sassy highness even when she was sick she was SCREAMING at the vet letting everyone know she was there ..

I'm so sorry to hear that your beautiful Pumpkin has passed away. It really is heart shattering when we lose our babies, I have lost 3 in the last 4 months and it really has killed me. I am like yourself, blaming myself for what has happened and the guilt is so overpowering and unbearable. Grief, is one of the most difficult things in life to cope with.

It sounds to me like Pumpkin was truly loved and you were a good piggie parent. The thing with piggies is they hide their illnesses so well that sometimes when we actually notice something isn't right, it unfortunately, can be too late. Please be gentle with yourself as you grieve.

I’m so sorry you have lost your beautiful girl Pumpkin, you gave her a wonderful life and although they break your heart when they leave us our lives would not have been so rich without having them. Take great care, life will get better And at some point you will be able to look back on your dear memories without the pain and smile x
