Bekki
Senior Guinea Pig
This little fellow came into my life at the beginning of January 2012 at an approximate age of 8-9 months. He was in reasonably poor condition kept in a really tiny cage 30x15cm! had a broken wheel, dirty cage and his coat was dull. He put on a little weight and his coat improved very well within about 4 weeks but he was still a weedy little boy at only 110g which is very small for a syrian male! Yesterday I had him out and he was acting really healthy, sat on my shoulder and generally had a really good runabout , he had a cuddle this morning and was fine and he was asleep at dinner time when I woke him by putting food in his cage he stirred looked about and then went to sleep again.
At 10pm tonight my OH noticed he was sprawled all out in his cage barely breathing with no sign of injury we wrapped him up in a blanket in case he was trying to hibernate (unlikely) we just checked him again not long later and he is gone, totally limp no signs of any attempts at breathing I closed his eyes and left him in his cage . Its taken me a while to compose myself.
He had shown no signs of ilness and no weight loss. I can only assume he had a fatal stroke /heart attack. He was a weedy little boy of bad breeding by the looks of him. He had a beautiful personality and loved cuddles and always craved attention.
RIP Toby!
