I had a visit from my mum yesterday and she had a little cuddle with the guinea pigs and she asked my why I don't let me roam round my living room floor. I am new to guinea pigs so was after a little advice on the matter. I live in a house with lots of wires (3 boys into gadgets) so I thought it best not to put them down on the floor as they are so young. I have 3 girls they are only 11 weeks old am I right in keeping them off the floor?

It's good for your guinea pig to have a bit of a roam round but you must keep them away from wires as you know. So why don't you block of an area where the guinea pig can roam around for a bit with maybe cushions or any house hold items you can use or maybe let you guinea pig run around in a secure room like maybe your kitchen or some where. Hope this helps.

Thank you for that I like the cushion idea I have lots of cushions :-). I do let them have lots of roaming time outside in a large run but with the weather changes that can happen I was worried they may get board so thanks I will try the cushion idea/blocking the wire are off :-).

As long as there are no escape routes or dangerous things to chew then I think a good old roam around is a good idea :)

I let mine roam sometimes and I just block the fridge and stove area etc and let them roam the whole upstairs. I have a open concept home so they can't hurt the floor with their pees. I don't let them to often because I also have a cat, but mine have a big cage and a big run as well.

Thanks for the advise I am waiting till the weekend ( no work) and I will sort some of the areas out that might be dangerous and then cover the rest .

I sometimes let them loose in the kitchen but usually just block off one end so they don't just sit underneath the table at the one end the whole time, and so we can still go in and out the room without risking them escaping out the door. Depends on the layout and shape of your rooms really :)
