Things aren't great with Rocky.

I really thought we'd turned the corner when Rocky started to eat proper leaves. Then we went to the vet and it seemed to traumatise her so much that we were back to just the syringe again.

We have an appointment in a week's time and I don't know whether to cancel it or not. The problem is that Rocky also has an ear infection that needs looking at, but going to the surgery seems to have a bad effect on her.

Emmie said the teeth were looking great and there was no bruising following the dental surgery 3 weeks ago.

It's soul destroying watching Rocky refusing food. I've been here before, and the outcome was awful.

I'm so sorry! Vet visits can be difficult. Has Rocky got a friend to go with her? I do sound a bit whacky, but I'm murmuring to them and fussing over them all the time. It seems to help.

Otherwise, there is not much you can do. You will have to outweigh the risks of her ear infection against her trauma.

I wish you two all the best!

Lucinda I'm so sorry to hear this :( Think about Pops, she's been where Rocky is & look at her now. I'm thinking about you & hoping she finds her appetite for leaves :)

Oh darling Lucinda and sweet sweet Rocky all my love and healing wheeeeeeks for you xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
Keep up with the syringe feeding love, let's hope that with enough encouragement Rocky will want to start to eat by herself real soon again xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So sorry to hear about Rocky; I really don't know what to advise, although when I had poorly piggies, I always took one of the others as company, it did seem to calm them. Sending healing vibes, and hope there'll be better news soon.

I'm very sorry Lucinda - I dont know what to suggest but I hope that Rocky gets her appetite for real food back soon.
Merlin and I are sending all our love to you both xoxo

Sorry to hear that Rocky isn't well. Fingers crossed that she's better soon.

What's the latest on darling Rocky Lucinda?
Is she trying to eat for herself or still preferring her syringe?

oh lucinda, how are things now? as you know i have just been in that situation. message me if * need to chat on here or facebook....

I know how very hard it is Lucinda, but just look at Pops. The tears i've cried for that girl, and the despair I have felt at times. (I don't know what I would have done without Glynis). Poppet didn't eat a thing on her own for about five months, but it has got better. I don't think we will ever get her teeth completely right again, but they can be managed so well now, and she goes from strength to strength.

Just keep up the syringe feeding and offer her all the other foods she likes too. I used to cut grass up into tiny pieces and mix it in with the Critical Care so I could syringe that in too. Doing that encouraged her to start chewing food again.

Will she eat grass and hay? For now just give her all the things she loves and try and get a bit of weight onto her, and if ever you are feeling really down about it all, just give me a shout. x

Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions.

We have good meals and bad meals! Breakfast was much more positive. I know it's going to take time. I think I feel bad because I am full of memories of my darling Dr who refused everything, even the syringe.

Rocky has a lot of personality and spirit. I know that everyone at the vets thought Rocky would not survive the dental surgery, so we've done well really.

Now I have just found out that Rocky has developed a jaw abscess.

I'll start Baytril tonight and we'll get it drained tomorrow.

Poor Rocky - it doesn't rain for you, it pours!

I'm thinking of you and sending good vibes.

All the best
Vicky

OMG an abscess :)>>>:)>>> poor Rocky 8...
SUPER DUPER HEALING WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKS and loves from us all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
HUGE HUGS for you too darling i know what you're going thru and just how you're feeling xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Quite far round to the side, not quite under the ear. About the size of large marble.

Oh dear - poor little Rocky.
Merlin and I are sending all of our love to her.
Let us know how she get on at the vets

That must make the chewing uncomfortable! Poor girl!

All the best for her today.

Rocky had the abscess lanced and flushed under LA today.

The muscle, jaw bone and teeth are all involved. Rocky has many co-morbidities: ovarian cyst, around 20 lipomas including one on the carotid, the dental problems, ear infection, weight loss.

She lost 30g this week.

I think it's a matter of days now for my special little friend. Please send love to her.

Thank you both.

Rocky had a good meal tonight and I have flushed out the abscess.

Where is the seat of the abscess? What do you mean exactly by saying that the teeth and jaw are involved, upper or lower jaw? What is the antibiotic in use?
The lipomas, as such, should not be of too much concern. A lipoma on the carotid? Should be in the text-books for that.....
The ovarian cyst is not going to be fatal. Don't despair just yet. Keep flushing out the abscess. Make sure the pig is getting enough fluids as well as food.

At the moment it's baytril but we are reviewing that on Monday and maybe changing (which I think would be better).

Lower jaw. Apparently the bone is infected through and through; also the adjoining muscle.

The lipoma I refer to is sititng across the carotid, and my concern has always been pressure on the artery. I apologise if my wording was in any way misleading. I am probably not thinking very clearly today.

Lucinda, I'm so very sorry, and am sending much love to both Rocky and you.
