Three year ago I had the previldge of taking in two rescue piggies, rocky and rolo. I purposefully chose these boys over to brand new baby piggies I had had my eye on as I knew that the babies would soon find someone who would fall for their baby charm, where as rocky and rolo had had a turbolurant start to life.
I lost rocky 18 months on, both brothers always had health problems most likely as a result of their mum being overbred, but rolo was the stronger of the two.
He had two near death experiences, once when he developed bloat, and more recently 10 months ago when he underwent a massive operation to have a giant tumour removed from his leg.
Both times his character shone through, and he pulled through.
Three months ago he was bonded with a new friend, another four year old boar, in the hope that they would live out their years together.
Sadly Rolos tumour, he was due to be operated on today, but this morning for the first time ever Rolo paid no attention to the food I was offering, he had become compact overnight, and I knew from his eyes he was ready to go. I took him into the vets for the op but we had a call less than half hour later to say that the cancer had spread and even if they amputated his leg it would just keep returning more and more frequently as it was so aggressive, so with great sadness we agreed it was time to let Rolly Polly go.
We have very many fond memories of him, and I can imagine him right now playing up on Rainbow Bridge.
RIP Rolly Polly love mum and dad x
"They did the popcorn dance, rocky and rolo did the popcorn dance, given half the chance they would do the popcorn dance for me...â€
