I was wondering if romaine is too high in calcium. I usually feed them cucumber, green bell pepper, cilantro, romaine lettuce, celery, and occasionally carrots and fruit. I've seen a lot of calcium white spots in their cage lately its just fine powder thankfully. Should I stop feeding romaine lettuce?

I think romain lettuce is fine, isn't cilantro quite high in calcium though?

Romaine is fine too feed but I also think that cilantro adds to it as well so maybe feed these foods less regularly? They are both quite high and better as a once or twice a week kind of food

Ok, I will try and cut out the romaine but I think I will feed cilantro daily just because it goes bad really fast. :)

Neither romaine or cilantro are high in calcium, but everything should be fed in moderation. Spinach, kale, broccoli and parsley are high calcium greens. But too much green veg can cause watery poops and bloat. Cilantro is high in vit C which is great for piggies. Romaine is mostly water with less nutritional content.
We usually alternate our leaves through the week, we feed cilantro 2 days a week as it doesnt last long, then a mixed salad with a bit of spinach 2 days a week, then romaine or little gem lettuce 2 days a week as it lasts longer, along with a daily slice of pepper and cucumber- and on weekends something different like beansprouts and sweet potato.
There is an excellent feeding guide on the forum somewhere.

Based on what veg you are feeding any excess calcium is likely to be coming from either the pellets or the water, though all piggies pee out a bit of calcium, its only if its gritty its likely to be a problem. Filtering the water and feeding a grain free pellet are good options for reducing calcium rather than restricting the sort of veg you mention here.

I read the feeding guide and was just worried about romaine so thank you!

I give mine cilantro in the afternoon everyday, is this safe? My piggies don’t like a lot of colored veggies that have Vitc C like peppers. I give parsley two days a week, in replacement of cilantro.

Cilantro is perfectly fine and actually is not high in calcium🙂

My boy Finn and Lara get romaine lettuce everyday. They also get moderate amount of cilantro daily.
I did research and found both of these to be perfectly fine to give daily.
My piggies have been getting these all their lives, particularly my boy Finn who has been with me since he was a baby and Finn is now a year and half years old.
Lara came to me from someone who didn't feed her veggies or hay and I don't know her age. She had been with me for about a year and has been eating both romaine lettuce and cilantro daily.

Romaine is fine, just no iceberg as it's very low in nutrition
