the paragraphs i've just written don't really seem like a childrens book- i don't think :

;D
This is an extract from in between them being taken away to going to their new home, i'm not sure if it's very good :-\
They were rudely awoken by the howls of dogs, Rombo looked around, there were lots of strange smells and sounds, he cautiously crept over to the cage bars and peered out, he could see lots of animals: rabbits pawing their ears, hamsters gnawing on cage bars, rats grunting and hopping about their cages,
Rombo looked around, there was a large sign on the wall, he strained his eyes as he tried to read it, “Small Animal Sancturary and Rehome†Rombo squawked in protest of being put into yet another home, he hated the man that made him come here and he missed Kathryn, he missed the way she smelt and the way she talked, with her strong Yorkshire accent. He let out a quiet “mweep†then went over to his litter tray, he buried his head in the bedding until he found some news paper, he pulled up a sheet and began to chew it but suddenly he saw a face that he remembered, he looked at the black and white picture on the paper, it was Kathryn! And above it read “Guinea Acres Sanctuary Closed Down†He felt a sudden rush of sadness, he began to wheek quietly, almost as if he was whispering to Kathryn, hoping somehow she would hear him, but he knew she couldn’t, he sat in the corner and chewed on a piece of hay, but this time it was not sweet, it tasted like damp newspaper, he spat it out in disgust and whimpered, all he wanted was a loving home, would he ever find one?
One day Rombo was having some exercise in one of the corridors of the Rehoming Centre, He was running, jumping and hopping about with his three friends, when suddenly he heard people shouting, he thought they were calling him, because he was sure it was feeding time, he happily bounded over to the doors when suddenly one flew open, hitting Rombo and sending him flying across the corridor, a dog had escaped and was tearing through the corridors, growling and barking, he ran over to the place Danny was hiding, he snapped him up in his jaws and began to shake him about, one of the volunteers at the Rehoming Centre screamed whilst others wrestled with the hyper dog, who was manically leaping about with a look of madness glinting in his eyes, he tossed Danny to one side and then ran to where Rombo lay, softly squawking as pain shot through his body, the dog ran it’s cold, bloodstained nose over his body and licked him, then he was dragged away by two men, Rombo’s eyes were wide with fear, his heart was beating fast and he couldn’t feel his back legs, he tried to pull himself up, but he couldn’t, a lady rushed over and wrapped him in a towel, then it all went dark.
He awoke several hours later in a clean cage, which had a strong smell of disinfectant, he feebly lifted his head up to look round but it was all blurry, he could hear people muttering a few feet away from him. He suddenly remembered what had happened and he let out a squeal, it was a tangle of panic and pain, he screeched and squawked, a man wearing a white coat rushed over with a syringe, he opened Rombo’s cage and restrained him as he pushed the needle into the scruff of his neck, Rombo tried to struggle but then a shock of pain burned through his legs and he was immediately still, his chest heaving as he breathed laboured breaths. The man talked in a soothing voice, which made Rombo relax, the injection made the pain go away and he felt better, especially when a vet nurse fed him some mashed vegetables and pellets soaked in warm water, he licked the bowl clean.
As he settled to sleep thoughts of Danny paced through his mind, it made him feel sick as he thought of that dog ripping poor Danny up, and the smell of fresh blood on the dog’s breath as it investigated Rombo’s still body.
Rombo was returned to the Rehoming Centre a few weeks later, his legs were still sore and he had special exercises which the volunteers were happy to do with him, Timmy and Eddie were pleased to see him, but for the first few days they weren’t allowed in the same cage as him, so they could be sure that Rombo’s legs would heal better, without being jumped on by two boisterous boars.
4years later
Rombo stretched his frail legs, him and Timmy were the only remaining boars out of the four, Eddie had been put to sleep a few months ago after getting paralysis in his back legs.
Rombo and Timmy were old, they had lived 5 years of their life and they felt soon they would be leaving the earth to see Danny and Eddie again. After the Dog Attack, Rombo and his two friends had been adopted by a middle aged couple, they lived free range in the spare bedroom and had many toys to occupy them, but as they got older they lost interest, so the toys were replaced with comfy beds, cushions and hidey houses, Rombo spent most of the time in a soft, warm kitten bed whilst Timmy spent his days lazing on a furry cushion. In Rombo’s younger years, they were allowed to run around the enclosed back garden for three hours everyday, whilst being supervised by their owners, but now they preferred the grass to come to them, every morning at feeding time they were brought, pellets, veggies, hay and fresh grass, which they gorged upon.
Rombo had never imagined getting this type of home, it was one he dreamed of since he was a baby, after a year of pain, upset and losing his best friends, he had finally found what he was looking for.
Rombo took one last look around the room and out the window, then he looked across at the food dish, there was a half eaten carrot “ I’ll finish that after my sleep†he thought as his eyes flickered shut, but he never woke up.
