Rose has a runny bum!

Went to give everyone their breakfast this morning and found that Rose has runny poo (looked like cow pats all over the cage) she seems fine shes sat eating hay and i've seen her drink. i've heard of people giving immodium (sp?) to guineas with runny bums, but i only have Boots own brand of diarrhoea relief (loperamide hydrochloride) am i able to give her this? and should i try and give her some probiotics? sorry for all the ?'s but ive never had a guinea with diarrhoea :{:...mallethead

(she didnt have her breakfast this morning, as i thought it could make it worse!)
 
Please take her off all fresh food for the time being and book her in at the vets if things do not look better within a day or if the poo turns into sheer liquid.

Some people give immodium. I have never done so and cannot advise you on that. I would wait with probiotics until the poo is starting to firm up and the digestive system is kicking in again. Please check her tummy to make sure that it isn't hard.

i've had a feel of her tummy and it feels fine, i've given her a huge pile of timothy hay and shes munching her way through it. she is also going to need a bath because she has been laying in it mallethead

As she is still eating well and having a good appetite, it may be just a tummy upset. Please make sure that she is drinking well; if you want to, you can mix up a bit of probiotic into the water if you want to syringe her some to make sure the she is hydrated.
 
I've also never felt the need to give Imodium or anything along those lines, there is one time I considered it as the pig was getting very messy with it, but it did clear up on its own within a few days.

As a general rule:
If it is dietary related, withdrawing fresh fruit/veg should do the trick within a day or two.
If it is antibiotic related, giving a probiotic should help.
If the pig is suffering other symptoms, treatment for the actual problem which will correct the diarrhoea problem, is preferable to just treating the diarrhoea.

In other words, I agree with what Wiebke said. Giving a probiotic is up to you, it won't hurt to give some even if not needed.
 
Just thought i'd give an update on Rose, her poos are starting to look a bit like poos again (not cowpats) but still very soft, and i've noticed that shes also eating some bits of her poo, i've also put some probiotic in her water :)
