Rose has a sore eye this morning it is closed slightly she seems okay in herself and is still doing everything as normal. I am going to bathe it in cooled boiled water, as suggested by the vet, to see if improves if not we will take her to the vet! Poor Rose. FD732D71-67B0-48D7-B285-0BCEF2A081E8.webp

Poor Rose. Hopefully it is just a little irritated and she's right as rain in no time

I hope that is just something stuck in the eye and not a scratch or poke that has not ulcerated yet. Fingers crossed!

It seemed a little better after bathing it. But still a bit closed. She was very brave and let me bath it.

Healing wheeks, naughty piggies do seem to like to time illnesses and injuries for holidays!

Glad to great things are improving, but always best to get the vet to check when they re-open.

Please let us know how vets goes tomorrow sending lots of love to her

Will do. it looked a bit worse tonight so definitely a trip to the vets in the morning. She is looking like she is feeling a bit sorry for herself tonight. Poor Rose😟

Rose had a seed stuck in her eye it has been removed and she has some eye drops and pain relief. She is happy to be back in her piggie palace with Rosie. Back to the vets next week to monitor progress. Poor Rose.

Poor Rose! Glad you managed to get a vets appointment and treatment so quickly over the holidays, hopefully she'll pick up quickly now the problem is getting sorted out x

Haypoke isn’t fun but it’s not uncommon.
Jemimah has just recovered from one.
Have fun with eye drops!
Hope Rose’s eye heals quickly

Sorry to hear about it. Hope Rose recovers soon.
Regarding the eye drops, my vet showed me to use a towel to securely hold, then drop the medicine on the eye. It was much easier. I thought I mention that to you. It is not fun for either party.

Glad that you could have her seen and have the irritant removed before it could cause some more serious damage. As it is just a surface problem, it should heal within a week without any further problems. ;)

These things tend to happen at the most incovenient of times. I don't know how often I've ended up with a piggy with a serious eye infection on a weekend/bank holiday/big fundraising day or coming back from a night away... :(

Thanks for all the advice and wishes. First round of eye drops administered by my wife while I held her (Rose not m wife!) The eye drops went well the meta cam was a bit more difficult and I ended being squirted with it. Rose safely in the piggie palace. Rosie is looking after her.

Any advice about giving metacam appreciated.

I believe most piggies love Metacam - apparently it tastes nice.
Same advice as @Seven7 gave - wrap Rose securely in a towel and gently administer meds in the syringe.
Ensure there is a favourite food for afterwards.
I gave Jemimah a piece of cucumber.

Normally they like metacam because its sugary... she might eat it on a bit of cucumber or apple if she won't take it from the syringe? Its usually the easiest medicine to give though because its honey flavoured!

Full week of medication and back at the vets today. Rose had worked out when the snuggle sack was near it meant that she was about to be picked up so her escapology got ever more elaborate! Once she got settled she was fine and got tucked into the parsley and lettuce. The good news is the vet was really pleased with her progress and has given her some eye drops. The vet had previously said that she would have no site in her eye due to the infection but looks like that will not be the case and she just has a little bit of scarring. Poor Rose really doesn’t like being picked up and let out a big cry when the vet held her. No more vet trips in the foreseeable. She has been the bravest piggie and is all fixed! Hooray for Rose.
