I have heard that piggies like to eat roses sometimes and I have a couple of questions.

1) The roses in my garden - do I take the petals (and leaves?) off when they are starting to droop? Can the piggies eat them straight after picking, or do I dry them first?

2) I sometimes get a bunch of roses from the supermarket to cheer up the house - can the piggies eat those?

I know they are not something to feed regularly, but as an occasional treat.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The supermarket flowers are often treated with antifungals and pesticides, so they could be toxic. Your garden rises are OK as long as there has been no weed killer or pesticide near them. I think your piggies may have a nibble, but I doubt if they will feed much on rose leaves. Fresh and green, I would think. Rose leaves decompose quite quickly, so perhaps throw away what isn't eaten ❤️

I let the rose petals dry and then sprinkle a few on their hay as a treat
They do like the odd one or two fresh
The florist / supermarket flowers tend to have sprays put on them to stop the petals falling off as well as the stuff Truffolo mentioned
They can eat raspberry/strawberry/buddleia leaves too
If you prune an apple/pear tree they enjoy nibbling the branches

My Rainbow Piggies The Ever Beautiful Betsy and Cutey Pie Dennis loved roses.

I took the rose flowers straight off the plant and gave it to them.

My two love fresh rose petals from the roses in my garden. They also eat some of the leaves and stalks when I prune the roses.
