I’m wondering how often I can give my 2 piggies a rosewood carrot house or hay cube for enrichment please? They enjoy both but I’ve read over consumption of cardboard can lead to nutritional deficiencies - I don’t know if this is true or disinformation or if it’s a case of limiting this kind of enrichment? I was worried they were bored and wasn’t sure what to give them to do (aside from eat hay and tease each other 😆).

My already overweight boar is gaining weight and I’m not sure why. My sow is fine. I’ve read this won’t be the hay cubes but thought I’d check? Maybe I just need to cut their veg a little? They only get one egg cup of nuggets a day between them.

Mine get a hay cube and / or carrot cottage fairly regularly.
They do love chew them to destruction 😊

As long as they have a good diet they won’t eat cardboard to the detriment of everything else.

I do ring the changes so after a couple weeks I may remove the carrot cottage and replace it with a paper bag stuffed with hay or some different fleece tunnels

I don't have a hay house constantly in the cage, usually I'll give them with a few months break (they're super expensive so I only buy them when ordering from out of country). If your piggies completely devour the hayhouse with all the cardboard in a very short intervall of time I'd maybe restrict it like this, otherwise you can probably give them a bit more often as a little bit of cardboard shouldn't bother their tummies or appetite.

I've only bought haycubes maybe twice for my piggies as they don't like the hay in them so can't say whether those can contribute to weightgain :hmm:If you're feeding a lot of carrot or pellets those at least easily make my chonky Söpö go up in weight, so you can focus on giving your boar some food that's lighter, I mainly give Söpö bell peppers, cucumber and different salads. He also only gets a sprinkle of pellets so that he won't envy his more athletic neighbors 🙈

My two like a carrot cottage as a hidey - they do chew the sides so it becomes a table, then it has 3 legs and then it’s binned - they never chew the whole thing but I think it’s good to help keep teeth in check
I usually find it lasts about a month
