Hi all!

Hope you’re well.

Some of you boarded the “Villa al Pig” ship with me where we built a brand new, beautiful cage. Well long story short, the ship sank after a mistake and the cage was no longer safe for the pigs or me.

So! The slave (read: me) ordered a new C&C cage, accidentally ordered a size larger (5x2 + loft), so the only sensible action now is to get another piggy. I’m hoping for a neutered boy for my two girls, we’ll see when one turns up for adoption. I don’t want to turn to pet shops. I’m also unsure of what type of boy my girls will accept, but we shall see. He’ll come to us when it’s time, we’ll wait :)

For any fellow EU peoples, I ordered my cage from C&C modular cages in Poland. The cage is in excellent condition, the delivery fast, and customer service also available quickly. I recommend!

I so wish that were the case! In Estonia, there are very few animal shelters/rescues, and even fewer ones that accept small animals. I have checked nearly all of them, no piggies. Most pigs are either passed on to acquaintances or posted on FaceBook groups/pages, where I have my eye on.

Ads for piggies are rare, guinea care isn’t talked about enough here. A common belief is that since they’re small animals, a proper living space or vets don’t matter. People often won’t recognise the need to rehome a piggy :(

I hope that 'Mr Right' will eventually turn up. I am familiar with those attitudes which have been prevalent until fairly recently and are sadly still very widespread everywhere. Guinea pigs are still far too much affected by the stigma of being short-lived children's pets - they are of course neither. But it is great of you that you are trying to make a difference.
 
You may find this guide here helpful. What goes for a mixed pair also goes for a mixed trio - with the premise that the sows have to be good friends. Initial acceptance is key. It becomes the less guaranteed the older sows get so you always need an alternative solution that allows living next door with interaction through the bars.

Boar neutering itself ideally needs an experienced vet since the risk of complications (especially abscesses) or even fatality can be quite high while the best operating vets can achieve a near perfect record.

Thank you for taking the time to advise me, it is very much appreciated! I will read all the links.

I’m very much hoping for an already neutered boy, but if I come across one that isn’t and my gut gives me a sign, I have all the space and materialistic needs to get the boy a surgery and a living space for recovery. It’s just my heart that’s fragile here.

I also have the means if anything goes wrong in the future, their happiness is most important to me.

The introductions is what concerns me. I need a piggie owner that will allow proper introductions, I also see a lot of breeders selling babies; they’re hard to detect sometimes. Every pig deserves a good home, but I don’t want to encourage what I see :/
