This morning there were spots of blood on the vetbed - it was coming from Rosie's bottom. I took her to the vets this pm and she has a tumour. The vet has given her painkillers. I am obviously very upset and concerned about how best to look after her. At least i am off work for another 3 weeks so i will be able to keep a close eye on her.

Is the vet going to operate?

I'm very sorry to hear that, did the vet give you any other imformation concerning treatment or outlook for Rosie?

Operating wasn't given as an option - she is 4 1/2 years old and the tumour is large so i think it is too late.

oh no how devastating for you...no advice sorry, except to just cherish her and make sure she is as comfy as possible.

Sending some comforting vibes xx

Oh no! One of mine is called Rosie so i completly get how you feel!

Would it be worth going to a second vet for other opinions on treatment?

:( sending my healing vibes to Rosie. No experience of this so can't give advice but i really hope she's ok, big hugs x

Oh no! We had this with Storm, plus a UTI. She lived very happily with the tumour for a couple of years. Feel free to PM me if you want anything or I can help xx

I'm really sorry to hear this...but I am also concerned why your vets didn;t discuss with you the possibility of spaying her to remove the tumour if, as it sounds like from your description, it is in her womb/ovaries/reproductive system.

It could be if she has a tumour it has spread too far or is in a different place..but frankly unless the vets have done some pretty expensive diagostic tests, they would not be able to determine this. It really might be worth getting a second opinion...whereabouts in East Mids are you?

Sorry to hear this though..I have several guineas with "terminal" problems and I do know how it feels.....

x

Whee are very sorry to hear about little Rosie also :(
I hope you can get a second opinion
All paws crossed for you little Rosie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

((HUGS!)) Did they say where the tumour is located? Sometimes if it's a uterine tumour or something else 'self-contained' it can be a balanced risk to try a spay operation. Obviously there is significant risk to the operation, but at the same time there is not a good prognosis to leave it alone. Haven't run into this with one of my pigs but we did lose a pygmy hedgehog to uterine cancer- our vet actually said that a spay was her best option but by the time we discovered the tumour she already had extensive bleeding and was in shock and was highly unlikely to get through any more trauma. If she is still hydrated and in good condition she may be resilient enough to get through surgery. Again, so sorry you are dealing with this and sending many good wishes to Rosie!

Very sorry to Rosie is not well. Sending lots of healing vibes and hugs your way x

Thanks for everyone's kind words of support for Rosie. I am in north west leicestershire so if anyone knows of a piggie vet around here it may be worth getting a second opinion. However, if the prognosis is not good i would rather she spent her last days/ weeks with us feeling unstressed rather than put her through the trauma of an op.
