Hello, our guinea pig Fern who is under a year old has a bald spot. It is rough to the touch, but she does not seem to notice when we feel it -- so I don't think it is causing her any pain. I am going to make a vet appointment tomorrow, but do you have any idea as to what it could be? Thank you so much.

Bald spots can be caused by a few different things from barbering to mites. The vet will be able to help. Let us know how she gets on

Ooo it's definitely a vet visit so glad you have an appointment booked. It could be mites or a fungal infection like ringworm

Please have your boy checked for a fungal skin infection (seeing the large skin flakes) or mange mites.
What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)

Thank you all so much for the help! It seemed to be a kind of fungus, and the vet gave us a topical medicine to put on for two weeks. Thank you again!
