I have been making calls all mornings about a couple of recent postings on here regarding the RSPCA and wildlife.

I have a dear friend who fosters gps and hhs for me and she happens to work in the offices of a local vet.

She is going to find out if they have had any details directly from the RSPCA regarding the PTS policy. She knows it recently changed for a cat that had reached a certain age but will look into the wildlife side...

However, it's not just a wildlife problem...

Just yesterday they got a call from a gentleman who had found a dog wandering down the road. Having watched it for a while and seen that it wasn't returning home and worried for it's safety he called the RSPCA. They told him to contact the local dog warden. The local dog warden told told him to contact the vets. Vets don't handle stray dogs unless injured so they told them to contact the RSPCA. He contacted the RSPCA for the second time telling them that he couldn't keep the dog so please could they come out and their answer was ....NO.
In the end he had to take the dog to the vets and beg for them to take it in. Luckily he was microchipped and soon re-united with owner.

I was also told about a greyhound that was loose running around fields for 4 weeks before it was killed by traffic. The RSPCA were made aware of this dog many times and as a result of public concerns the local vet made a call. They were told that all they could do was put a cage down with food in but the only cages that they had were too small for a greyhound so he probably wouldn't enter of his own accord. He didn't and died as a result.

The runaway guinea pig that I received just over a week ago was a result of the RSPCA refusing to help. They simply passed on my number.

What is going on? Why does no-one want to help anymore ? I know that shelters and rescues are overflowing but at least they could lend a helping hand to see if the dog was chipped.

This is partly why I started Animal Rehoming UK. It is working to re-home animals that are no longer wanted. So please spread the word if you can and stop people from using the RSPCA.

The Guineas that came in to me last weekend were via an RSPCA inspector,The police initially found them, contacted the rspca, they contacted the local inspector who phoned me to see if we had room and an animal collection officer came with them later that day...Its all news to me re the wildlife as we dont foster those, nor the cats and dogs but i will certainly ask the co-ordinators what they know and if anything i will post it here. And please if you are reading this and wanting a small animal rehomed via the rspca we would indeed take the animal.
