Junior Guinea Pig
so about twenty minutes ago i unleashed rufus on the guinea girls! it's 5 weeks since his neutering, and he has been really lonely so i decided to introduce them today!
it seems to be going well so far, i was a bit concerned, as the girls have had a very quiet life to themselves, and are getting a bit older at 4 1/2 so to throw a 6 month old mischief into the works was a bit of a worry.
rufus is over the moon with this, he's been admiring them from afar since he came here from a rescue, and they have all met through cage bars. he's been chasing them, rumblestrutting and popcorning around so far. they seem slightly irritated by it, however at the same time they seem pretty laid back. i've put a bit plate of veggies in for them all, and there seems to be little chasing sessions and then they all settle down to eat. is it good that they're eating? they all seem pretty laid back, and he has surprised me as he hasn't been as full on as i expected (he's a bit of a character!).
the girls aren't letting him mount them, they're doing a bit of a run around and barging him out of the way when he's trying his luck. i did notice that poppy sprayed him with wee before, and looking at the sticky on introductions, that's something to keep an eye on, but they don't seem to bad, no nipping even. it's not too nice to watch him chasing them around, but i know it probably looks worse than it is. the girls seem rather indifferent at the moment, letting him sniff their face, but putting him in his place at times. could this be a good thing, or does it maybe mean they are neither for or against him? will they maybe warm to him in time?
here's a photo of them all tucking into their brunch:
rufus is at the front left of the photo, with poppy just behind him, and meg to the right.
