Back on topic if anyone has a Piggy with this problem

Angled wear on the front teeth is a classic sign of under growth of the molars on one side only.

As they are under growing the only fix is to trim the molars on the other side.

The ones you will be trimming are growing normally but nothing can be done to encourage the slow growers to speed up.

surely it is about uneven wear, not undergrowth
why should one side decide not to grow fast.
apologies if my logic is a mistake, if i am wrong which book did you get it from

I agree with the general theory Paul, but personally I'm more inclined to suspect that, for whatever reason, the pig started to favour chewing on only one side, which leads to the overgrowth of only the left or right set of molars.
 
Thank you for your advice all (And I forgive you for hijacking Rufus' thread because I agree with you!).
I have decided that Rufus needs his teeth checking (better to be safe than sorry) and I have made an appointment to see Vedra tomorrow. It is an unbelievable weight off of my mind knowing that he will be in absolutely the best hands.
So the boys and I are off on a road trip tomorrow, I think it will take 2.5hrs. I have a good carrier so they'll be ok.
I'll let you know the verdict x

It was part of the dental course that I did at the CCT

It is because one side of the upper molars does not grow as fast as the other side, thus the statement that its under growth.

You might well see it as overgrowth of the other side, but the other side is really growing normally but has to be trimmed to match the short side.

So basically regardless of which side is growing incorrectly the only solution is to trim the side that is longer, regardless of how it became too long.

That's how I was taught it

Unusual, to say the least. Isn't over-wear on one side more likely?

Surely you need to find the cause and try to eliminate that also?
 
Ok there is little point in posting when advice given with the best intentions is rejected.

I can only say what was taught to me only a few weeks ago, if thats not good enough for you all then so be it.

No need to be like that, we're all learning people's opinion's differ all the time it's a fact of life. I'm sure no one ment to offend you.

They were just curious and asking questions, it's the best way to learn!

I do apologise. I just haven't ever heard of teeth growing at an uneven rate, but definitely know of uneven wear. That was all I was trying to say. In my very limited experience, once comfort and normal eating is achieved, the cause should be found and addressed or it will continue to be a major problem. I find it a bit odd that the teeth are growing at different rates. There would be no cure for that. Is it genetic?
 
Niki I would like to complain about that comment but I don't know how to. That was extremely rude and racist and I OBJECT STRONGLY.Perhaps someone would be kind enough to let me know how to do the complaint thing properly.

If you go to the thread that has the comment, you will see an explaination mark under the posters name, click it and type your reason, then the mod's will investigate.

Hi tracey the pretty piggie! Hope you're feeling ok this evening and eating lots for your mummy! :))
We got on well thank you, rufus had his teeth checked and vedra couldn't see any problem with them. Phew, relief. The peace of mind was certainly worth the trip. Vedra also checked rufus' legs because he has been seeming to favour putting his weight on one front leg and not the other, but she said everything feels fine and in fact a tendon in his other leg was inflammed.

However the saying "out of the frying pan and into the fire" seems apt tonight as the boys have started trying to fight with each other and won't stop. We've put a divider down the cage and they are most displeased. They've never fought before - certainly no more than the odd 'chin off'. I'm hoping that the stress of the journey and being confined has caused it and that it's nothing more serious. I'm planning on bathing and reintroducing tomorrow. No blood has been drawn so I believe it's ok to try...
So mixed feelings this evening :(
 
ah thanks for saying she is pretty. i am proud of her.:)

i hope your boys were just fed up and they sort themselves out. good luck tomorrow.
