Hi there my two girls seem to be be rumble strutting a lot . Tango mostly. She Keeps trying to get on salsa alot of the time and I think salsa is getting a bit annoyed . Is this normal behaviour

Yes this is completely normal dominance behaviour and is nothing to worry about. Tango may be in season at the moment, but should settle down soon.

I have the dishwasher going at the moment and there rumbling away

If they were doing it before the dishwasher was in then they are likely in season.

That’s normal. Sows come into season approx every two weeks and you will see dominance behaviours during those times. Sows do also have hormone spikes just as teen boars do

Thanks piggie and buns . Hope you have a great Xmas not looking forward to going to London at all with the omicron cases being so high

Hi

How old are your sows and how long have they been together?
We strongly recommend to double-check the gender of your guinea pigs upon arrival. Mis-sexing is sadly anything but uncommon. Illustrated Sexing Guide

Rumblestrutting can have several functions. You can see it during the 2 weeks bonding/settling in phase in which the group is fully established; in the days around a season (ca. every 2 weeks) and if it is constant in adult sows, then you want to have your sows checked for ovarian cysts.
Sows: Behaviour and female health problems (including ovarian cysts)
When Sows Experience A Strong Season (videos)
Bonding and Interaction: Illustrated social behaviours and bonding dynamics (includes the ca. 2 weeks post-intro dominance phase, which also applies to settling into a new environment)

I have had my two girlies since early October . They where gender checked when I purchased them from my local pets at home store and when I phoned up they told me on both occasions that they are both definitely female .

I think that tango is maybe in season at the moment

Hi!

Your girls are now teenagers, which can mean stronger hormones and stronger seasons.

Please NEVER rely on what the shop staff is telling you and double-check with the help of our guide with lots of reference pictures - our pregnancy section is sadly proof of that. :(

They are definitely sows I can’t see any signs of testicles . The main thing is there isn’t any signs of them fighting . They just go crazy chasing each other around there cage

To be clear for the purposes of anybody looking on these posts in the future, not seeing testicles isn’t confirmation of their sex and that they are definitely sows, if they are young.
Boars don’t tend to get visible testicles until between 4 and 6 months of age so you wouldn’t see testicles until piggies are that age but they would have been fertile for many many months before that.
The only way to confirm they are sows is by checking the genitals and checking inside the slit to ensure there is a fleshy seal

Not sure what you mean

Teenage piggies have higher levels of hormones than adult piggies. This means that when they are in season they can have more hormonal behaviour - more rumblestrutting, more mounting etc.
They are teenagers until they are 14 months of age

Testicles only decend at around 4 months of age (i.e. the onset of teenage).

For more detailed information on seasons and stronger teenage hormones please click on the information links in my first post. The second link contains videos of a strong season.

Should I keep a eye on things

Should I keep a eye on things

On which things specifically?
Hormonal behaviour is entirely normal but as long as your piggies are getting on well, then it isn’t anything concerning in it. Although checking they definitely are getting on well is an ongoing thing to keep a watch of!

If you havent checked the sexes of them yourself, then that is something you must do to be sure they are definitely both female

Before I purchased them from pets at home. They said they keep all of the same gender together and they are sexed by one of there vets within the store

Sadly we see missexing from pet shops - there are multiple threads from people who were told they has same sex piggies but then find out they aren’t and the sow is then pregnant. It’s never wise to take their word for it and is always best to double check their sexes for yourself

I’m pretty sure there female

I’m thinking they must be is season or coming up to being in season as I don’t hear them doing it as much today

I’m not sure how old my two girlies are. I got them around mid October time

Okay salsa is so much bigger than tango. Tango is still quite small. I sometimes worry about her size
