One of my sows started purring and swinging her hips when I put her and her sister back into their hutch. She also started scent marking (dragging her behind on the floor)... i thought only boars did this. I’ve checked, double checked and triple checked that she’s a she. I was just wondering if this was normal sow behaviour? Thanks :)

Yes this is normal sow behaviour on two occasions - one is for dominance and bonding behaviours and the second occasion will be if she is in season (it can get quite pronounced during strong seasons). If she is in season it should only last a day or two

Thank you. I was worried I would need to check her again..... they both started popcorning after

If you have tripled checked her sex you will be fine. The first time I saw it between my first two piggies I panicked too :))

Rumblestrutting and scent marking dominance behaviour in all guinea pigs. It is likely that your girl is coming into season. There are actually no social interactive behaviours that are confined to just one gender. Sows in season will chase and mount other sows or even boars. ;)
