My lot are spending most of the day in the runs at the moment as it is cooler than the hutches. I have 2 wooden runs, with solid panels at the end so they always have shade. The runs have proper lids too, so they are safe. The runs are moved every day to a fresh patch of grass (dh is impressed at how little he has had to cut the grass this year!) I work from home so can keep an eye on them all day.

They have a water bottle and bowl (with ice) along with cool pads and ice blocks, lots of hideys (wood and plastic) I have been putting a bowl of nuggets in with them as they tend to go out just after breakfast (when I'm sure the grass is dry)

Do I need to put anything else out ? Do they need hay in the runs (they have loads in the hutch at night) or is the grass they are munching enough ?

Thanks
Andrea

It sounds lovely! I'd maybe watch the plastic hideys as they can heat up an awful lot in the sun. Also, just keep an eye on them for any signs of heat stroke, as even in the shade it's getting pretty hot out there at the moment! I move my runs around the garden throughout the day so that the pigs are always in the coolest part of the garden.
