Does anyone have any advice on how long guineas should be in the run on average? I have read conflicting advice online recently (not here), one site said at least 4hrs a day, another said no more than 30mins because of the risk of bloat.
If I put them out for a few hours should I reduce the amount of veggies given in order to decrease the likelihood of bloat. Or as normal, am I just worrying too much?! :)

ta muchly,
xx

I have two pairs of boars who have access to grass all day and all night in the summer and they are fine. My other pigs tend to go out in the evenings (as I work full time and it's still too wet when I leave for work) for a few hours but at the weekend they might be out longer. My grass isn't very long though. If they're out on long lush grass I wouldn't leave them as long because of bloat.

I have 16 gps and they go in the runs every other day and they spend a whole night in the runs as the runs I can spread out much bigger than their actual living space and I put houses and toys etc in, so they have y of exerise, though the 3 new ones we have just got, only go in runs I have made myself as they werent used to exerise, so I am getting them used to it before I put them in the big runs. All my runs are indoors also

Depending on weather my boys can be out in their pairs of runs all day! literally from 8 to 8 if a dry day. I put houses, toys, boxes etc in and clip a towel to the top for shade. (and also so they cant see each other. :(|)
I dont have grass, they are on paving slabs, but i put a handful of grass and fill a small box with hay.
Ive had no problems, my boys love it.
If a wet day then they have about 40 mins in the conservatory
Would be interested to see what others do though x

when mine go outside i mormaly put them out sometiem between 10am and 11am and there come back in at 4.30pm

i bring mine in at 4.30pm as there have tea at 5.30pm and i find there need a sleep before tea when been outside so by the time it gets to 5.30pm there are less tried and enjoy there tea more if i just brought them in at 5.30pm and feed them staright away there wont touch there tea as there still tired

Its the same for my pigs, they go out first thing and come in last thing depending on how wet it is of course. My grass is fairly short due to their constant grazing so they are out more for the space than the grass so do not get bloated.

I work at a vets and we have had a couple of piggies last year with bloat. I think its more of a problem if they are not used to grass. If they have had not much grass all year round and then they are put on grass all day. If I was you just give them an hour and increase it as the week goes on.

I should probably be careful then, as until July they lived in an iron shed and never saw grass. Having said that, they do seem to spend a lot of the time just chilling in their tunnels. :)

When I lived at home and had a garden, I never put mine out during the hottest part of the day- normally around 2 o'clock. They'd come in at between 5:30 and 6:30 depending on how cold it was. However they'd sometimes get bored and would go inside earlier, with the rest of the grass in a bowl for them =]

I agree with mstori, It depends on the weather, They can run all day as long as it's not that hot or cold..
