Hello, I just made my little friends an outdoor runaround.
My question is high. How high does it need to be safe so they dont jump over it or climb, when I'm not looking Image of runaround . This is 30cm high

It needs to be high enough that they can’t climb on something and get out over the top. But for safety’s sake it needs to have an enclosed roof - mesh or similar not only to keep them in, but to keep predators out.

Hello, they have a hutch. This is just as runaround i the day. Not gonna leave them outside overnight and stuff like that. Was just wondering if they are going to be able to climb over the little walls when I'm not looking at them?
Also not much predators in the middle of town, except a cat maybe.
Overnight they will definitely go back in the hutch. Even in the day I'm only gonna let them out when people are around.
But for example, lets say i want to go and make myself a coffee. I dont want to come back and one on them has climbed over and escaped

The run should still have a roof - not only will it stop them from climbing out, it will stop anything from getting in. If you turn your back to answer the phone, door etc then anything could happen to them - cats get in etc. It’s really not safe to leave them without full protection of a secure and lidded run

Any outdoor run should be very secure, ideally made of wood and mesh and lidded.

But yes they very likely could climb out of 30cm sides - thats lower than a standard c&c grid- using hideys to climb on etc

If they are out in the run at any time they really are vulnerable to predators. Birds, cats, dogs, foxes etc. A covered run is really a must if you want to relax while they are out.
I am saying this because of years of experience. There have been many incidents on this forum of opportunist predators helping themselves to piggies. Sadly, a pair of piggies we adopted out were killed in an uncovered run by a pair of dogs that jumped over the opener’s fence into their garden and killed the pigs in their run.

Thank you I will see what I can do about it then. I didn't want to put a roof at first hmm so we can hope in with them. But will see . Ill have to fix them up with something

My run is 2ft high, hinged roof, wooden run and I can get in with them to catch them etc

This is what I consider “safe” for piggies to spend the day on the grass in. It has a UVA cover that fits on the top to keep the sun off and there is a bunny box for them to hide in and eat hay. I would not leave your piggies unattended in your enclose, it’s open to cats, stray dogs, weasels and foxes (foxes do frequent gardens during the day, especially mum’s looking for easy prey to feed their young x
