hello every one, i was at a local show on sunday and i was helping with getting the piggy's out of the pens till one of the judges said to stop, as one had 'running lice' and wasn't allowed to show. now i think my new baby piggy that i got as a present from one of the judges on sunday has picked it up. all 3 guinea pigs are booked into the vets for tomorrow afternoon, as i've never had to deal with this before let alone on a piggy so young. the baby is only 2 months old! what i want to know is, will my dog and 3 hamsters be ok? or will they need to be treated as well :{? also, my new piggy hasn't touched much water, he is eating every thing, but not drinking yet. is this normal? it's been a while since i've had a new baby so small, he has a cage mate and they are getting on great. any advice is welcome.... :0 my vet is really good with guinea pigs.

Hi there. Running lice is a total nightmare to get rid of. You have to use special shampoo and keep bathing pigggies. Georgeous Guineas do one called Lice and Easy which is what I use as it is made especially for guinea pigs.

I think your two month old is too young for it though so I am not sure what you can do with her. Your dog cannot get it so do not worry.

I have noticed that new piggies never seem to drink. I think they have to feel confident before they do that. As long as your piggy is eating vegetables she *** be fine as she will be getting water from them.

the judge had warned us all to keep a close eye on our pigs over next few days just in case. all my piggy's are boars. but there is defiantly something on him, as i saw it crawl on my finger? *shivers* i can't buy that just now, because all my money what i've got left is out of my bank ready for the vets tomorrow. but the other two piggy's were washed with the fungus shampoo from GG, before the show........

running lice are really easy to get rid of - johnsons small animal insecticidal shampoo and johnsons small animal insecticidal spray.
they can pick running lice up from hay/other pigs , its not the end of the day if they get them just treat as above.

Hope you manage to get rid of the lice. My two boys didn't seem to drink for quite a while when I first go them, but had plenty of veggies so I didn't worry. They now seem to be drinking fine so it must be a settling in thing.
