So my guinea pig has been on sulfatrim for probably a month or more now, the first time was for a URI and the second was for bumble foot. She’s currently still on it but I noticed today that she has brown crust coming out of her nose and she looks a little ill, her eyes are sunken in and her fur is ruffled up. Is this a uri? I’m not sure what I should do considering she’s still on the medication for it. Any advice? She also goes back to the vet Monday for a check up on her bumble foot.

Hi!

Please have your piggy seen by a vet tomorrow, if at all possible. If your piggy is taking a downturn while on medication, then that is serious. It is impossible for me to say without a hands-on examination (not that I am qualified) whether it is connected to the URI or something else.

Switch from weighing weekly to weighing daily at the same time and start syringe feeding top up and offering lukewarm water as soon as your piggy has lost over 50g/2 oz. You can use mushed up pellets as long as you cut off the syringe tip as shown in our syringe feeding guide. Please be aware that over 80% of the daily food intake is hay, which you can't check by eye.
