Biscuit has had a runny nose for a few days now, although her diet and behaviour are fine. No change there. Can guinea pigs get colds or could it be something more worrying? :S

Piggies get upper respiratory infections (URI's). These are bacterial & not viral like our colds. They need to be seen by a vet to get an appropriate anti-biotic. My Hazlenut had a runny nose, took him to the vet same day, he got an injection of Baytril plus I syringed him with Baytril for 4 more days and he was cured. Yours has been going on a while., I would take piggy to the vet asap. URI's can kill them.

Oh dear! i didn't think it would be that severe! Vet first thing in the morning then. She won't be happy but at least it should be a quick treatment! Thank you! Poor piggy!

Sorry didn't mean to scare you! Just that a piggy runny nose could be an URI & so needs a vet check.

Well hopefully its nothing serious but at least i know now and she has an appointment at 8.30am tomorrow. Sje should be ok through the night she's scoffing her face and wheeking away like nothings up but obviously best to be sure! thank you again tho! i prob woulda waited a couple more days to see if it just went away but now i know better! she wont be impressed tho! She's a drama queen when she's at the vet! when i phoned them she hopped up onto my chest and started nuzzling under my chin so i think she knows already! lol

Well thanl you heaps! It was a URI got her meds so all should be well soon! :D She's happy wheeking away and getting tonnes of cuddles! She took one sniff of that medicine and went running though! Haha! She must remember it from when she was little and had it for a urine infection! lol Smart piggy! But thank you tonnes again! Frome me and Biscuit!

Glad to hear she has been seen to. It's best to get these things sorted before they stop eating or there are other changes in their behaviour. Piggies hide their illnesses so by the time you see any signs of distress, things can have become very serious indeed..I am finding with piggies there is no wait & see if it sorts itself out, it never seems to!

If Biscuit got Baytril I'm not surprised she won't like it, I don't think any piggy likes the taste of that stuff! You could dip the tip of the syringe in unsweetened cranberry juice to make it more palatable. Or you could give her favourite veggie treat after so she comes to associate the bad taste with the reward of a good one.

I'm glad she's got meds and will be on the mend soon. They do remember the medicine, don't they? Mine know they are at the vet as soon as we walk in the door!

Thank you everyone Biscuits doin well. Vet said she's a nice healthy weight too! :) and yeah it is baytril but the juice and treats aren't convining her! lasg time she was on meds i tried a bit of juice to sweeten it but she started getting a bit suspicious of her food after that but I'm giving her a treat afterwards to wash away the taste. and lol yeah animals are very wise to the vets! even when i phoned them she jamp onto me and started suking up big time! :) you could almost hear her saying please don't take me to the vet! lol
