My Guinea pig is currently on anti inflammatory medicine for a poorly leg and she is having quite bad diarrhoea. She has burgess excel Guinea pig nuggets, lots of veggies and unlimited hay and water so I don't think it is her diet causing it. Is it as side affect of the medication (melodixyl) or is it because of the bad leg? If so, what can I do to stop it?

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS:)

Hi sadly sloppy poos is a side efect of melodixi , it is important that you try and stop it asap as it can dehydrat her.

first l would stop all vegies , and encorage her to drink as much water as poss
fibralex would be helpfull , and you could try pro colin ,
you would also be wise to ask you vet to cheq her over, you could ask if he would consider changing meds

Ok Thankyou :) hopefully she will be off in a few days because her leg is improving

Hi I would be carfull with bad runny poos , if it were me l would ask vet to cheq her over , and l would also reduce the meds

You could also try giving her electrolytes too. I use Dioralyte. It is a human medication but my vet is usually happy for me to give it.

Hi Helen, do you mix it as per the instructions ?
What dose do you give pigs ?

Today, Betty took a turn for he worst. She had a stroke and was unable to walk. We put her in her hutch with the other piggies who all cuddled around her. She had some pain medicine and began to pass away. It was very peaceful and she did not suffer. Betty was an amazing guinea pig and I will miss her so much. Rip Betty- christmas day 2015

So sorry to hear about Betty I'm pleased she had her cage mates with her when she passed I bet they gave her lots of comfort, lots of love to yourself xx
