Well I still havn't got another run :P so I thought I'd ask some questions...

How big is your run, how much did it cost and where was it from (if ebay/similar was in new or second hand?)

Thanks..just curious ;)

Janeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

edit: just saw this, quite close to me - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4ft-x-3ft-Fol...hZ014QQcategoryZ63513QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem What do you think about that? I like how it folds up :P

Have you got a local freecycle group, I have got 2 runs from my local group from some very kind freecyclers. :)

I brought one from ebay a few weeks ago would not recommend the seller one bit less said the better. Its was not the seller you have put go for it but email a few people who already have them. Do not be put off ebay as most sellers are 100% fantastic mine had brillaint feedback on his runs lord knows why :tickedoff:I have since emailed a couple would were scared to get a negative from him. I will be giving him a nice big negative and yes I will get one back I am not bothered by it.

Well we have now decided not to buy a run and instead dad is going to make one. When I got the piggies they gave us a small hutch, so we were thinking of putting it on top of the run with a ramp down.

Right..question time. Hope you aren't bored of my questions already ::) :P

If we make it very secure will they be able to be in there unsupervised? I ask because I know there's people who have their hutch always attached to the run - and of course they aren't with their piggies 24/7...?
How do we make it very secure? We're thinking of putting padlocks on the doors of the hutch and on the roof of run. Even if we don't need them - it would make me happier about leaving them in their.
At the moment there is no way to put a padlock on, what can I use to do it? Pictures would be a great help. I have something in my head but I have *no* idea what it's called and can't find pictures :tickedoff:
Remember, they wont be staying out at night but what more should I do to make sure it's secure?

Thanks :P

It was not and I will not name them on an open forum due to the dispute with them as it has gone further than ebay now. All I will say is this person makes them to sell themselves postage is high and they sell more things than runs.

i have a hutch on top of a run witrh a ramp going down. this is my day time hutch, they all get put away in the other hutch in the shed at night at the moment, till it gets warmer.
my outside hutch has a trapdoor over the ramp entrance, you can close it up so the guineas can't get down in the night, which i think is a good idea, you don't want mr fox to get them, it would make it safer.

The thing is - they are not going to be sleeping outside at night..I'm just wondering how I could make the hutch and run safe enough for them to be in there unsupervised throughout the day. Thank you though. :)

you could always put a layer of mesh under the run on the grass to stop mr.fox getting in. ileavce mine out for about an hour while I'm out, they always have access to the hutches anyway.

isn't wire mesh underfoot bad for guinea pigs feet?
and is there a concern that foxes are around in the day time? not sure they would be around, you only need to make sure the run has a lid to stop cats getting in.
mine come in at night too, but they are in the hutch/ run during the day.this should be fine
I only leave them in the run if I am around too.

If your not in do not leave them with access to a run it is NOT safe I was in my kitchen filling a water bottle when a fox stuck his nose around the shed door back in feb. My back door was open and the blatent fox had walked past it. Putting mesh on the bottom on the run is not good for the piggies feet. If I am not home my piggies are locked in a hutch safe from all preditors Please if your at work/school this time of year they can have two/three hours during the evening which is enough time to mow the lawn for you.

Thank you everyone. Pumpkinpiggie - don't worry, I would NEVER leave them out if I wasn't home - I was just curious as to weather I could leave them outside and sit in the house for a couple of hours?

The run will have a lid padlocked on, and the hutch doors will probably have padlocks on. Should I still supervise at all times?

If your in the house hun they should be fine :)I am normally in the kitchen ironing ::) dont know where it comes from ;D If I am upstairs and little one has come in. I am checking them every 5 minutes if I am not out there I always end up going out and sitting with them love watching them playing. Just dont go out and leave them in there.

Do you think I should put padlocks on? Even if it doesn't need it, it would make me more confident, especially with Patch being on the garden a lot.

Thanks so much. So, just to confirm.

The run will be very stable, the hutch doors will be padlocked shut and the roof of the run with be padlocked on. It will have shade and protection from the weather (they wouldn't go out in bed weather though). So I should be okay to leave them out and check on them every half-hour or so?
