Rupert - my soul piggy

Beyond heartbroken to say this morning I found Rupert in his cage this morning having passed away in the night. True to form Rupert did not tell me anything was wrong last night, only gave me boops and kisses while I was giving him his nightly metacam.

Rest easy old chap, it was an honour and a privilege to be your mama and you deserve everlasting peace.

I am so sorry that you couldn't say goodbye your gorgeous Rupert but try to take comfort that whatever has happened it must have been very sudden and quick and that Rupert could enjoy the happy and long life you have given him right up to the very last few moments.

But while it is one of the gentlest ways to die, the shock for us is all the harder because we cannot brace for it. But if we had the choice: would we not rather take the extra load of pain upon ourselves instead of leaving it for those we love?

Be kind with yourself. It is OK to not be OK for a little while but please seek help if you get stuck in one of the nasty mind loops or unexpected snags that the grieving process can catch us out on.

Thank you all so much for your kind words it's been a tough few weeks but his ashes are back with us now and his little pawprints. We're currently in the process of getting a little memorial portrait done of Rupert and his first two wives.
